Tristen's POV
Why Jonathon always insisted on sitting like this I will never know. Jonathon and I were in the library, sitting on the couch reading The Raven by Edger Allen Poe. This was normal for us. I think it was able three and a half years ago when we started doing this. Late in the evenings when we had nothing better to do, we would go into the library or stay in our room and read. Jonathon always preferred for me to sit in between his legs as I read aloud. It was irritating at first but I soon found it to be rather comfortable. Having his arms wrapped around me, leaning against him, knowing that he was right there. It brought me great comfort especially after one of those dreams. So here we are, sitting in the library reading. It wasn’t until half way through the book that Jonathon fell asleep and despite the fact that he was sleep, I continued to read aloud. Not too long after that I found that my eyes were beginning to burn and it was becoming difficult to stay awake.
Placing the book in my lap, I snuggled into Jonathon a bit more before allowing sleep to take me. It came quickly however it was not as peaceful as I hoped. The dream consisted of noises and images that just didn’t make sense but continued to come at me nonetheless. When I finally jolted awake, Jonathon was still fast asleep. Slowly peeling myself from Jonathon's grasp – careful not to wake him – I left him in the library. I walked into the kitchen and grabbed a glass of water before walking over to the window. I stepped outside and took in the view before me. It was midday so the sun was settled into the sky and the island was alive. The urge to go down to the beach nagged at me so I searched for a way down there. I found it not too far from the house. Making my way down the path, I finally emerged on the beach and stood along the shore. The water was much clearer here. I walked into the sea a bit and allowed the cold water to wash over my feet and ankles. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath – taking in the sweet smell of salt water and the scent of nature surrounding the beach.
“Tristen.” I heard someone whisper. I opened my eyes and looked around only to be startled by Jonathon. I jumped in surprise and sighed heavily when I was able to calm down a bit.
“Jeez Jon are you trying to give me a heart attack?” I asked sarcastically. Jonathon looked at me strange before suddenly grabbing my hand and walking out further into the water.
“Jon, I think this is far enough.” I said when the water reached my chest. “Jonathon, I said this is far enough.” I snapped while trying to pull away from him but he wouldn’t let go. He turned around and pulled me even farther out to sea. This time the water came up to my mouth and when I tried to get away from him, Jonathon pushed me into the water. When I fell I expected to resurface immediately but Jonathon had other plans. He dove into the water after me and swam me to the bottom. I struggled but Jonathon’s hold on me was impossible to break. When we reached the bottom of the ocean floor, Jonathon held me there. My ears finally began to pop and I couldn’t hold my breath any longer. I opened my mouth to breath but chocked on salt water. I watched as things began to blur and fade.
“Tristen! Tristen!!” I heard a faint voice call out to me but I had no sense of direction. I was surrounded by darkness and there was nowhere for me to go. “Tristen! Wake up!!” I heard the voice call to me again. It sounded like Jonathon but it was hard to tell. He sounded so far away. I stared into the darkness around me and felt myself began to drift. “TRISTEN!!” I heard Jonathon yell and something hit my chest. I took a sharp intake of breath only to have something force its way back up my throat and out my mouth. I turned over and heaved several times, water and my dinner from last night finding its way back up. I opened my eyes and everything was blurry at first but it slowly began to come into focus. I was back on the beach, the private one that is behind the condo. I was soaking wet and my body felt heavy. I turned back over onto my back and the sun blinded me with its rays. I groaned and closed my eyes again, the sunlight too painful to handle at the moment. I felt someone pick me up but I was too tired to try and fight them off. They carried me away from the beach and I lost consciousness shortly after that.
