Author's Pov

"Hey stranger," Jen greeted as her shorter friend opened the door. Offering back a smile and a wave, Sabrina stepped to the side and let her in. "How's it going?" Jen asked, slipping her shoes off and following Sabrina up the stairs. She got two thumbs up in response.

"Hey Jen," Aliyah greeted as she walked passed the pair.

"Hi, Liyah."

The two settled down on the bed right next to each other and Sabrina pulled out her phone.

You ready for the mall?

"I don't know. Am I?" Jen giggled. "Is paparazzi gonna mob us?"

Hopefully not. That'll surely mess things up.

Jen smiles at the screen before looking up at her friend.

She hasn't spoken to her about it, but she'd been meaning to talk to Sabrina about something that'd been roaming her mind. Like everyone else, she was dying to hear Sabrina's voice. The thing was, she didn't know how to tell her. She stayed mindful of the fact that Sabrina was trying. She was trying hard. But the mix of feelings she was feeling was overwhelming. The eerie knot her stomach just longing for a sound.

A tap on her shoulder brought her out of her thoughts.

You blanked out. Are you okay?

"Um... Yeah. I'm fine short stack." She attempted to reassure her friend.

Sabrina raised an eyebrow at her friend. She wasn't buying it. But for now, she shrugged it off. She'll talk to her about it later.

In the Car, Sabrina's Pov

I sat in the back, middle seat of the car. To my right is Jen, mama is driving, and Aliyah is in the driver's seat. The three of them were singing at the top of their lungs to Fifth Harmony's new single, "Work From Home."

I smiled for a while. Enjoying the happiness that was radiating off of all of them. It was contagious... At least it was until I realized that there was no way for me to join. I'm a mute... It's all I'll ever be at this point.

I cannot speak no matter how hard I try. It just isn't happening and it never will... I've given up. There is literally no point of me being here right now. I don't want to be the silent one, sitting in the middle of the noise. In the middle of people happily enjoying thems-

"Bri."

My head snapped towards Jen, who was standing outside. She'd opened my door, and I'm guessing that she had been waiting.

"Are you feeling alright?" She asked, stepping closer. Soon after she asked, mama came into sight behind her, then Aliyah.

"Baby are you okay?" Mama asked.

"Sabrina come on. Don't you wanna go shop?" Aliyah added.

Anxiety began to slowly fill my body as I looked in between the three. Too many questions that I cannot answer.

"Here, let me drive you home. Girls I'll be back," Mama said.

My eyes widened immediately and I shook my head. I got out of the car and stood next to Jen, taking her hand. I have to get over this.

I pointed at the building, urging us to go in.

"Bri are you sure?" Mama asked.

I took a deep breath.

"Actually."

My head snaps towards Jen again. "We'll walk home together. We aren't too far."

I finally exhale, eased at the fact that Jen sensed that I couldn't stay... But I'm somewhat upset, seeing as we were all just supposed to go out and have fun.

"Jen it's fine, I'll dr-"

I raise my hand, stopping her from finishing her sentence. Then, I take out my phone.

I'll just go with Jen... I'm not feeling too well, but the air from walking would help.

A/n Short. I know. More coming up.
