Carling pov

I was walking the city streets, following the directions the raven had given me, as I had refused to ride in or on that carriage that the child was in. As I walked through the street I looked at the people around me, the childeren who ran around screaming and laughing, the woman who either adorned a mans arm, those who walk alone and on high alert and the mothers who pulled their whinging children along behind them. I watch the street venders compete against each other to get more customers. Many things have changed in my many years on this earth but the actions of humans had changed very little. I couldn't help but chuckle to myself about it as I slowly made it to the outskirts of the town, entering the forest lined road. The forest was quiet,mind a few song birds. As I walked I became aware of a presence following me I slowed my walking and let the presence get closer when it came with in striking distance I spun around, my hand extended to wrap around their neck. I made contact and they froze, I slowly my instincts settled and i realized that it was a young man, two of them, they had been following me.

"And what do you think you were going succeed with today?"

I asked in a honeyed voiced, however a warning still followed every word. The boy and his friend wimpered.

"I'm..I'm sorry we...we won't do it again!!"

The boy cried as I let my grip relax, I let go and he crumpled to the ground. A sneer mixed with a smile crawled on my face.

"Hmmm.. be sure you don't, or there will be hell in your future"

The young mans' friend helped him up and they ran off with their tails between their legs. I sighed as their figure dissapered and turned to go back on my way. An hour later I found myself at the path that lead to the door of the Phantomhive manor, I stopped for a moment to take in the size of the grounds and manor itself, i snorted softly to myself and muttered

"That child owns an estate of this size? Hell.."

Then movement from the far left second story window caught my eye, I gaze in that direction to see none other then the raven himself standing there looking down at me, a mocking/amused smile on his face, I sneered up at him and marched to the door, before i could even knock the door opened and he stood there a closed eye smile painted on his face.

"Oh don't pretend on my part bird I dont want to be here anymore then you want me here"

After i finished his smile slowly faded and he opened his red eyes to look at me, his face told me everything before his lips even started to move.

"You are here by the grace of my masternl, if it were up to me you would have been left with that mad man, not that you'd complain"

I let out a dry laugh and brushed by him looking at him from the corner of my eye, for a moment letting my more demonic side show. My left eye glowed red, my right eye hidden as usual and my canines elongated to short fangs.

"Do not take me so lightly, you may be centuries old but I still know enough to hurt you and every other prince..."

A wicked slightly crazed smile grew on my face as he now sneered at me.

"Heh, oh did I hit a sore spot... poor thing. Now where is your child I would like to make my terms and conditions clear with him."

Sebastian said nothing but simply walk up the stairs, i followed close behind looking at the ornate walls and decor, soon we came to two large doors. Sebastian knocked and from with in a young boys voice replied.

"You may enter"

He sounded annoyed, as if the idea that someone needed to talk to him was something he couldn't be bothered with. Sebastian opened the door and lead me in. I entered the room and stood I'm the middle as sebastian went to stand next to Ciel.
The boy looked at me, giving me a once over before speaking.

"Undertaker said you were useful to me. however those were just words..how can you prove that I need you?"

He put his arms on the table and rested his chin on the back of his hands, a slight glare told me he didn't believe I had any worth..

'Prove it you say?.. All right I'll give you a small taste of what I'm capable of..."

No one's POV

No sooner had the words left her mouth the curtains were thrown closed only a small sliver of light illuminated the room. Both Ciel and Sebastian looked around. Then back at her. Her hair was back allowing both eyes to glow a bloody crimson, then the shadows that were thrown on the walls began to move and stretch, some even seemed to peel off the wall and take form,whispering filled the room and the attention was drawn back to Carling. She was once more the point of origin for the shadows, her hair seemed to grow in length but was wispy like it was made from the shadows she had summoned and that's when she smiled.. her teeth were that of a cats', her nails were claws.

She let out a giggle like that of a haunted doll and vanished into the smokey shadows around her. Her voice echoed throughout the room like the wind, with no end and no beginning.

"Your ancestors had a word for my kind..they called us Umbra, or shadows for that is what I am, a shadow constantly here I see everything. anywhere that the sun can't touch is mine to manipulate. Your shadow is mine as is the tree's, the birds, the dogs...and even your's...Rex Corvos..

Suddenly two hands grasped Ciel by the shoulders, he looked to his right and ice filled his veins, right there was Carling, her bright red eyes glowed as if light by a fire, her teeth were like daggers but most unsettling of all her mouth had become exaggerated, reaching back almost to her ears so that when she spoke it looked like she could swallow him in one bite. She smiled and all of her teeth shone like freshly polished daggers.

Slowly she released her grip on Ceil and once more disappeared into the smokey shadows. The whispers and shrieks grew louder and louder, so loud in fact that both men had to cover their ears. Then as soon as it started it stopped, the curtains were thrown open and the bright sun flooded the room and just as before the young woman who had just shaken Ciel to his core stood before him in the center of the room. A small smirk appeared on her lips.

"Let me be very clear..that was only a small bit of what I can do. my kind have complete control over the world of shadows and darkness, I am the shadow you feared when you were a small child, though not full blooded demon I can assure I have more then enough raw power..are you satisfied now..Boy.

For a moment Ciel couldn't speak for he was still shaken from what he had just experienced. The room was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. The with voice low he spoke up, his eyes still showing a shadow of fear.

"I see that you are capable, I'll let you stay, you will work as information gathering and tracker for me, I will provide a room and food..."

Carling gave Ciel a cold smile then directed her attention to Sebastian. Her visible eye was back to a human grey but he could still see a slight red glow from behind her hair that hid the other eye. She spoke but it was an ancient language..Ciel guessed Latin but he couldn't be sure

"Corvos.. qui ubique sunt obumbratio"

(Crow..the shadows are everywhere)

Sebastian glared at her but said nothing. The with one last look at both of them Carling turned on her heel an sauntered out of the room, the doors slammed behind her.
