“No.” I tilted my head stubbornly away from Shay’s pleading eyes and Dustin’s pouting face. The two of them had some pre-graduation party, they wanted to throw. Which doesn’t really make sense, Dustin isn’t even graduating. I narrowed my eyes at the pale yellow kitchen wall, trying to cast my away from their begging expressions. I held my gaze strong focused on nothing but the wall. My back was stiff and ridged. I sat with a stubborn determination.
“PLEASEEEEE,” Dustin begged, wrapping his arms around my waist. I shoved him away angrily with a grunt, and continued to stare at the wall, as he fell on the tile floor beside me. A small smile pulled at my lips, but I forced it away with my determination. A thought dawned and me, and my hard gaze transformed into one of confusion. Why would I want to be a part of a party? Why would I even GO to the party? I hate parties.
“No.” I said stubbornly, my hard expression returning.
“Ella, please!” Shay droned in a pleading tone. I narrowed my eyes and sighed. I stole a quick glance at Shay’s face, hoping my mean stare would make her and Dustin STOP begging. Looking at her was a BIG mistake. Her face was so adorable, like a baby puppy, or a penguin. I shook my head and a small groan left my lips.
“FINE!”
“You’ll help with the party?!” Dustin cried.
“You’ll sing too?!” Shay squawked loudly. I rolled my eyes at the pair and nodded remorsefully.
“YAY!” They shrieked in unison. I grunted and stood up from the tall, oak stool I had been sitting on, I walked over to the fridge.
“So Ella,” Shay mused from the counter across the room. “Graduations in a week, are you excited?” I turned my eyes at her. Shay could change any subject in the blink of an eye. It was annoying some times, but it came in handy during awkward situations.
“No.” I couldn’t SEE Shay but I could feel her eyes widen at the back of my head.
“NO!? How are you not excited?” I shrugged nonchalantly and scanned the shelves of the fridge.
“Graduating school just means more school.” I mumbled, voicing my true opinion.
“But after this we’re done with HIGH SCHOOL!” Apparently shay didn’t understand my logic.
“So, after we graduate we have COLLEGE! Woppie.” I closed the fridge and began to scan the counter hungrily. Shay huffed in annoyance.
“Well, are you at least excited for our trip?” I smiled as I spotted a bag of cool ranch Doritos.
“Yeah.”
“Well good. At least you’re excited about something.” I rolled my eyes and grabbed my Doritos and walked over to the couch and flopped down lazily. I sat, happily munching away, while staring blankly at the T.V. A loud thump from the kitchen interrupted my lazy acts. I sighed in aggravation and stood hastily, throwing the bag of chips on the floor in the process. I deep huff left my throat and I stomped to the kitchen. I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw Dustin and Shay covered in flour and the kitchen an absolute disaster. My eyes widened. Shay and Dustin were laughing and REALLY close together, like within kissing distance close. And they looked like they wanted to kiss too. Neither one of them had noticed me enter the kitchen. I decided to speak up now.
“What’s going on?” My voice rang out through the silent room. Shay turned her body slightly toward me.
“Ella! Um well, you see, uh...”
“Shaylee?” a voice sounded from behind me. I snapped my head to see Rex standing in the kitchen doorway. Shay jumped away from Dustin and her eyes shot up to Rex.
