3 ☢ Descriptions
Descriptions are the first thing that a reader will read before trying out your story. Generally they are typically the reason that determines whether a reader decides to start your story or not.
There are many different ways to write descriptions here on wattpad, but for Fanfictions there are particular ways in which people write them to entice readers.
[Examples will be in italics]
Way 1: Definition
These descriptions are very common in fanfiction. They are generally made up of the real definition, and then a second reason that links to the story. For example:
Sacrifice
/ˈsakrɪfʌɪs/
1. An act of slaughtering an animal or person or surrendering a possession as an offering to save the lives of others
2. A concept Bellamy Blake did not fully understand until he met Falcon Williams
Way 2: In which...
These are generally a sentence that begin with the two words 'in which'. Example:
In which Monty realises that Elizabeth is the one person he should not mess with.
Way 3: Simple
This is usually a simple sentence that leaves the reader wanting more. Example:
And when she gets locked up on the Ark, she doesn't intend to be one of the first on the ground.
Way 4: Quote
As above suggests, this description is a simple but effective quote that relates to the book. It doesn't have to be from the story itself, but it must be relevant to the book. Since this is a The 100 fanfic, maybe use a quote from the TV show or book. Example:
❝A warrior doesn't worry about what she can't control.❞
Way 5: Normal
This is just a normal description that you write to outline the events of your story without giving the main plot away. Example:
Ninety seven years ago the world was soaked with nuclear radiation. Millions died, but thankfully there were survivors. Twelve space stations in orbit at the time came together to form the Ark; the very place where the rest of humanity stand on their last legs.
Ali was born in space. The only thing she has ever seen is the pitch black of the night sky and the grey of the Ark.
But when she gets arrested, Ali realises that her days are limited.
That is until the Ark send down 100 delinquents to test whether Earth is survivable, Ali among the fugitives.
The teenagers learn how to survive, impossible dangers, but more importantly, that they are not alone.
But above all Ali learns one very important fact: do not trust John Murphy.
Or for a grounder fanfic:
Ali is an outcast from Ice Nation. They call her the Warrior. The girl who killed a man with her bare hands. The girl who cannot be defeated.
But when she stumbles across the Ark, she meets one person who will change her life forever.
Or for a ship fanfic [in this case, Bellarke]:
When 100 delinquents are sent to the ground as a death sentence, Clarke finds herself among the thieves and murderers. Having had a haunting past that has left her unable to trust others, she finds herself taking control of the group of teenagers.
But there is one person who stands in her way: Bellamy Blake. And she will do anything to make sure that he doesn't bring chaos with him.
{I suck at these descriptions, but I hope that they helped/inspired you}
Of course you can also do your description how you want to, but these are here to help in case you get stuck. Tips for writing your own descriptions:
i. Make them short so that it leaves the reader wanting more.
ii. Don't give away the whole story
iii. Make sure that you mention what season your story is based in.
iv. Make it stand out. Being unique here is a way to get noticed
That's all for now, but I hoped it helped! Don't forget to vote, comment and DM us with any questions. Also, if you have read a good The 100 Fanfic recently, then please nominate it on The 100 Fanfic of the Month.
