Juliet

(Four months later, somewhere in California)

As I stepped out of the newly polished crème-white limousine, I thought to myself – this is it. I’m about to marry my first and only love, my best friend, Romeo Montague. You know, Juliet Montague sounds really nice.

Walking up to the steps of the St. George’s church, I turned towards Sara, who was my maid of honour, and whispered, “Thank you.”

She gave me a sweet smile and a nod in response, knowing that I was grateful that she came to my wedding. “I wouldn’t have missed this for the world.”

At the doors of the chapel, Romeo’s uncle, Stefan Montague, took my hand and his place next to me, as he were to give me away. Looks like my parents haven’t changed their minds about not witnessing my marriage vows to Romeo. Don’t you dare letting them ruin your best day, Juliet. You can’t change their opinion of Romeo, especially after refusing to marry their Paris.

Stefan Montague has been helping us since Romeo had taken me away from Verona beach. He had helped us to find a place to stay in and also helped us to find great jobs. He is like a second father to the two of us.

Lightly squizzing my hand, Stefan asked in a soft voice, “Are you ready?”

Smiling up at him, I answered with honesty, “As I’ll ever be.”

As the doors opened, instead of a typical wedding march, the lovely lyrics of ‘Love Story’ by Taylor Swift sounded through the church.

…Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone,

I’ll be waiting; all there’s left to do is run.

You’ll be the prince and I’ll be the princess.

It’s a love story, baby, just say yes…

As I walked down the aisle towards my wonderful and loving husband-to-be, I smiled even wider, remembering the evening I said the other important ‘yes’ of my life…

The sand squeaked beneath my bare toes, while the waves lovingly sprayed the warm seawater onto my ankles. Wearing a stripped aqua-white summer dress and swinging white sandals in my hand, I unhurriedly made my way across the beach, enjoying the gentle breeze, the soft sounds of the crushing waves and the last warm rays of today’s sun. I slowly walk towards the ‘hidden’ cave, where Romeo had asked me to meet him. That cave the two of us have found together while wondering along the beach a few days ago. Since then, it had become our little hideout place.

Today is a very special day for me and Romeo. It has been exactly one month since I fell for Romeo, escaped the Capulet house and followed Romeo out of Verona Beach. This is also our first ‘anniversary’ – we have officially been dating for one month, and counting. I’m a little nervous, as I have realised that Romeo loves to spoil with small but amazing surprizes. I told him he didn’t have to do that for me, but he said that he just simply wants to. What’s there not love about him?

When I stepped inside the cave, I felt my jaw drop along with my shoes.

In the middle of the crème stone room laid a snow white blanket with a picnic basket, a wine bottle and two wineglasses in the middle. The whole cave was lit up by a dozen of scarlet candles, and the floor was covered in crimson roses and petals. Soft sounds of my favourite song ‘I’ll Make Love to You’ by Boyz II Men were coming from the small CD player in the far corner. I could clearly hear the soft gasp of surprise I couldn’t keep in.

“You like?”- A gentle whisper came from behind me, his soft breath sending delicious shivers along my skin, his strong arms hugging my waist and bringing me closer to his chest, his warmth.

Turning in his embrace, I nuzzled his neck, whispering “I love it.”

Suddenly, Romeo pulled away, his hands running down my arms to my fingers – which send more shivers across my being – and gripping them tightly, he got down on one knee…

“Juliet Capulet, I know we have known each other for only one month, but in that month I had with you, my life had changed – for the better. I can’t even begin to imagine my life without you in it. I love you, Juliet. I love you, and I love how you have changed my world. I love my life with you in it. You make me feel alive. You cannot even begin to  imagine how happy I feel every morning, knowing that I have been given another day with you, to look at you, hold you, kiss you, love you. In the past month you have taught me what it’s like to love someone unconditionally, with no reason but for everything and anything you are. I love you, and I want you to become my wife, my life. I wish for you to share your life with me by your side. Let me be your eternal protector. I want to wake up every morning next to you. I want you to bear my children and raise them with me. I want to hold you and love you forever. I know that I don’t deserve your love, but I’m not willing to let go. I will always fight for you – no matter what – because I love you. You’re mine and I’m yours, I love you, and I want to marry you. I won’t take no for an answer. So, Juliet, marry me. Please. I love you.” – He said, opening a small red velvet box. Inside, I saw the most beautiful ring in the world – a small diamond in a shape of a rose blossom sat on a delicately thin gold band. It was perfect – just like our love.

Romeo loves me. He wants to marry me and have kids with me. How awesome is that? The love of my life loves me back, and wants to spend his life me! No wonder I love him more with every passing day.

Looking straight into his beautiful emerald eyes, I smiled as I said through tears streaking down my face, “Yes, Romeo, I will marry you.”

Smiling, Romeo put the ring on my finger, got up, then picked me up and twirled me around, laughing. Overwhelmed by my emotions, I laughed with him while my heart did summer saults.

(Present day)

Standing now in front of Father Laurence, gazing up into the bright green eyes of my handsome husband-to-be, my trembling hands in his strong and warm ones – I knew that I was doing the right thing. I can feel it with my whole being.

I know that there will be some troubles in our future, but as long as Romeo is by my side, we will get through them – together.
