Rooftop Escapades

The light was in my eyes again. Frowning, I opened them slowly. I was met with an unfamiliar stark white room. White walls, white ceiling, white good, white lamp beside the white bed tat I was laying on, white vase with a white flower on the white windowsill. Where am I, and how did I get here?

Then the smell catches up to me. Ammonia. Of course. Hospital, then, or someplace like a hospital. There's a mirror directly across the room from me. I stand up, and walk over, wanting to get a look at myself.

My brown hair is down, instead of being in its usual small ponytail in the back of my head, and my bangs are hanging over my eyes. There are horrendous bags under my eyes, and my clothes are disheveled. My eyes then landed on the lower right corner of my face.

Stitches lined my face from the edge of my nose, leading directly down across my lips, and ending near the bottom of my chin. Dried and crusted blood traced the edges of the wound. Wow. I look like I died and came back. I thought to myself.

"You almost did, I hear." A voice behind me speaks up. Apparently, I said that bit out loud. I turn around to see Kakashi leaning against the door opening, his orange book open in his hands. "The poison was made to stop the recipient's heart completely, and, given the time it took for us to get here, some would say it's a miracle you're up and walking right now."

"Really?" I ask. "And what would you call it?" I say, trying to speak clearly through my stitches. Mr. Kakashi doesn't really seem like the type of person to believe in miracles to me, for whatever reason.

His eye closes in a smile. "I'd call it... A mission accomplished." He answers simply. I try to smile back, but it ends up as a grimace as pain blossoms in my mouth yet again.

"Ow." I remark. "I guess that's proof enough that I'm alive and awake."

"Speaking of which, you're cleared to leave now, since you're awake." Kakashi states, standing up straight and putting his book away.

"Cool, but, um, where is here, exactly, Mr. Kakashi?" I ask, looking out of the window for the first time. I'm greeted by a sunny landscape, full of quaint wooden houses with tiled roofs and colorful banners out in the decently wide streets. Telephone wires line the landscape, and, off in the distance, a huge mountain stands with faces etched into it.

"Welcome to Konoha." Kakashi answers. "Home of... Well, you, now."

"Oh. Of course." I say, even though I don't quite understand at all. This whole ordeal is starting to make me a little dizzy.

"Shall we?" Kakashi asks, walking past me to open the window. He steps out onto the section of the roof that it opens out to. "This is the best way to get a look at the whole village."

I look over at him. "I'm not clear to leave here, am I?" I ask. It's not really a question.

"Nope." He answers easily. "They're actually running an investigation on whether or not you're a threat right now." That makes enough sense, I suppose. I wouldn't have much of a reason to trust a random girl that popped up out of nowhere either, really.

"So... They've got my stuff, including, um" I take a moment to note that I'm not wearing my clothes, but rather a loosely fitting light gray hospital garb. "My clothes?"

"Aren't you a smart one?" Kakashi asks, though not condescendingly. "Exactly right. The higher-ups here are so uptight nowadays. Are you coming? We don't have all day, and this room won't be empty forever."

"Yeah, I'm coming." I reply, making my way over to the windowsill next to Kakashi. "But where are we going? I still don't know anything."

"I can answer questions along the way. We're going on a tour." Kakashi replies in his usual calm manner. He then lifts me out of the window easily, and pats my back. "Oh, wait- you're not wearing any shoes, that could be a problem."
