Delilah awoke to find the boy still standing in front of her. “Why are you still here? Go away!” She yelled at Charlie. Maybe she is supposed to help me make amends. “How do I make amends?” I asked her sceptically. “How should I know? I didn’t know I could see ghosts until know.” She got up and grabbed a bright blue towel underneath the sink cabinet. “Uh, ghost thing could you go into my room while I change?” I was offended. I was a person once and she has the nerve to call me ‘ghost thing’ after what I’ve been through?

“Really? Ghost thing? I have a name you know and it’s Charlie.”

“Yeah, Charlie go in my room while I change.” I left and exited the bathroom. The girl’s room was lime green and was covered in drawings. I sat on the bed a task I thought would be impossible. I thought I would fall through the bed. I guess I still haven’t gotten a hold of this ghost thing.  The girl came out wearing a red tank top and Jean shorts. Her brown hair was tied back in a bun. Her expression was motionless

“You haven’t told me your name....” I asked her. “Oh, sorry it’s Delilah.” She replied with a wide smile on her face. She didn’t look scared of me anymore.

“Is there more of you?” She asked me. “There’s Max and this old man.”

“Why don’t they come for a visit? Could you ask them to come?”

She asked. “Uh, Delilah It’s not like that. They are in the ‘in between’” I told her everything Max and the old man told me.  “So the first step is making amends?”

“Yep, left something unaccounted for.” I sheepishly grinned.

“Why did you do it?” She asked me.  I knew what she was asking. I was not ready to answer that yet. I turned my back away from her and mumbled “don’t wanna talk about it.” She didn’t press further and sprayed some perfume on herself. I sniffed the air trying to smell it.

I couldn’t smell a thing. “Oh, god I can’t smell.”

“What?” Delilah looked taken aback.

“Your perfume I cannot smell it!’  I yelled. “Charlie calm down it must be a side effect to being a ghost.”

I sighed. If I knew all of this would happen I wouldn’t have jumped in front of the train.  “Charlie, I have to go to school do you want to come or...” I looked at her and smiled. It seemed like I haven’t been to school in years. I followed her out the door and into her red sedan.

We drove in silence all the way to her school.  We stepped out of her car and walked up the long steps to the front doorway. Delilah’s school was named Grant high. The building was fairly large and was quite new. I followed Delilah to her locker. “Don’t distract me in class please Charlie. I want to learn.”

“Yes....” I lied. “Good now my first class is English lets go.” I followed her to the door. She closed it before I got in and I fell through the door. My whole body felt weird. It felt as if I had no insides. I guess I didn’t anymore; my body was just a spirit.

Delilah sat down in a desk In the middle of the class and opened her text book. The English teacher was talking about some boring book. I slowly inched forward and was behind the teacher. Delilah noticed me and mouthed No, Charlie. I did not care. I started doing crumpets behind Delilah’s hot English teacher.  She burst out in laughter.

“Delilah price!” The hot English teach bellowed. “I-I’m sorry It was just a text message I will not look at it again.”

“Yes, you will not. Hand over the phone.” She pressed a little button on the side which I meant locked or turned off the phone and handed it over to her teacher. She turned and looked at me and mouthed “Your dead!”  I laughed and said “Already am, sweets.” She rolled her eyes and went back to reading her textbook.

The rest of the day went by fairly quickly.  It was finally time for lunch. Delilah grabbed a tray and placed a water bottle, a sandwich and a bag of chips from the cafeteria. She paid for her lunch and sat down at an empty table. “Don’t you have any friends?” I asked her. “I do but, they go to a different school from me.”

“Why don’t you go to their high school,” I asked her. “Well, it’s full, and anyways I am not in the right catchment for the school.” She looked down at her hands and Unclasped them then re clasped them. “This is so surreal.” She told me. “I can’t believe it Charlie I can see ghosts and I am not even finished school.”

People were staring at Delilah.  One guy walked up to her and said. “Hey did you take your meds today? No ones in front of you.” She looked hurt. I felt bad for her because it was my fault. I wanted to slap the guy across the face a task nor proven impossible. My hand would simply go through his face.

“I was on the phone jeez can’t I get some privacy you ass.” She yelled. “Whoa calm down, I think I should call the nearest circus to get them to put this freak in their show.” The guys friends came up behind him and slapped him on the back saying good one Michael. “Go away you asshole I just want to eat my lunch.”

He still wouldn’t move. “If you won’t move then I will.” Delilah said unscrewing the cap of her Evian water bottle and dumping the contents on Michaels head. “Have a nice day.” She said while walking away.

“That was amazing Delilah I never thought you would be such a badass.” I chuckled.

“I was in Karate when I was eight I can defend myself and my friends taught me a few insults.”

I started mimicking a few Karate moves. “How’s this?” She laughed. “You’re very funny Charlie.”

I walked over to the girls washroom and slide through the red door. I slide into a closed stall and saw a girl sitting down. I thought It was funny that I could see her but she couldn’t see me. He ‘Parts’ blurred’ and Max appeared beside the girl. “Charlie, some stuff may be blocked and this is one of the things.”

“I saw Delilah naked what’s the difference?” I told him.  He looked at me and sighed. “You were not supposed to see her then. I had the time set and everything but last minute she decided to get in the shower. I had no idea Charlie.”

“You pervert. You were watching her?”

“I assure you Charlie it was not in that way.” He said in a businesslike manner. “Yeah I hope not cause you are like ten. You could even pass as my little brother.”

“Except that I have blonde hair and blue eyes. You on the other hand have brown hair and brown eyes. Delilah Is outside in the hallway looking for you. Come out and say I have been looking for you everywhere. You don’t want her to think you’re a pervert.”

I nodded and headed out the door. “There you are Delilah I have been looking for you everywhere.”

“Charlie,” she said. "I-I don't feel well." I could tell her face was pale white and she looked sickly. She ran into the girls washroom and started heaving into one of the toilets. A few girls rushed out of the washroom not wanting to see or hear more.

"Delilah, everything alright in there?" I asked her concerned. "I'm fine." She wiped her face with her hand and walked over to the sink washing her hands and reapplying her lip gloss. "You don't look fine to me."

"Just leave me alone for a second will you Charlie." She said in an irritably tone of voice. "Jeez, mrs. grumpy pants. For your information YOU," I pointed a finger at her. "Are supposed to help me 'make amends' whatever that is."

"Well, maybe I don't want to Charlie."  I stood there, how could she say that? I thought she cared about me. Delilah turned around and walked away down the crowded halls. “Delilah, wait.” I yelled. She kept on walking.
