CHAPTER 3

By the time I had made it past the gate I still hadn't had the guts to make it all the way to the backyard. My heart was pulsing as the wind whistled in the trees, which is what brought my attention to the tree by the gate next to the fence. It was a tall tree, an oak I think. I had always enjoyed nature. It was like I looked at a tree or the skyline when the sunsets or maybe a flower, and life stopped for a little while. Everything was whole, everything was okay.

"Oh, Baby-cakes. Ya scared me, thought someone was comin' for our stash." One of the kids that I talked to in class said. I guess baby-cakes was my nickname then. He was fairly attractive, what really caught my attention were his eyes. They were a dark hazel almost with hints of green. His eyes were wonderful, it reminded me of a forest almost with the mixture of green and brown.

I shook my head in response. "Nope, told you I'd be here."
"Glad you are. Nice choice of outfit by the way." Forest eyes said, tugging on the bottom hem of my shirt. It was a Pink Floyd shirt with ripped jeans. He gave me a smirk before he walked ahead of me leading the way.
"Uhm, if you're going to flirt I'd suggest to know your name." I said, with a slight hint of annoyance in my voice.
"Oh sweetheart, I wasn't. You're not my type." Ouch. "You'll be Harlin's play toy in a week or so anyway."

"Harlin?" I asked.
"Yeah, a guy that Jake buys from. Kinda like the boss. He stops in pretty often. He might be here tonight. You're definitely his type."

At this point I was frustrated. I didn't come here to be their whore, I just wanted in on this dove business.

"Look, I ain't lookin' for trouble with this kid. I just wanna get the doves and get out." I said to him with much annoyance in my voice.

He snarled and said, "I bet you don't even know what we mean by doves."
I shook my head. "Well, no, not particularly. I know it's drugs. "
He sighed, as if saying 'dumb, dumb girl.' "It's ecstasy, sweetheart."

Oh.

"Well fuck, wasn't expecting that." I said raising my voice slightly.
"If you want out go now while you can. Once you're in with us there's no going back." He sighed, no emotion on his face.

I looked back at the gate noticing it was still open. I followed the stone leading back to the gate, hearing him sigh behind me. I put my hand on the gate and took one step,

and then I shut it.

"I want in." I said with a straight face.

He smirked, "welcome. Glad to have you here."

He began walking around the back of the house signaling for me to follow him.

"Zayn." He said.
"What?" I said following his long strides with my small ones.

"My name is Zayn."
