I flew through the night, the wind in my hair, the moonlight making the waves shine with an unearthly glow.
I flew close enough to the water to see my reflection. The terrible thick white scar, that ran across my face. The person staring back at me looked nothing like me. The person on the face of the water was happy and carefree. Not like me at all. I closed my eyes, blocking out the image. I had trouble opening my eyes and I knew it was time for me to land and find a place of rest.
As I was flying over Santa Monica, great L.A., I saw a small shed, nestled down into the sand. It wasn't perfect but it was there so I slowly descended, landing with a soft thud in the sand.
I made my way into the shed, making a makeshift bed with the items at hand, before settling down and falling asleep.
Sunlight filtered through the dusty window of the run down shed. I shook the sleep from my eyes, standing up at the sound of voices coming from outside. I heard footsteps and then, suddenly, a knock on the door.
I quickly grabbed my beat up sword, holding it forward, pointed at the door. The door was slammed open with a loud WHOOSH.
I stepped back, not anticipating the move. The boy that I had seen from the window when I was escaping stood in the doorway. His dark hair was swooped to the side. The same shiver inducing ice blue eyes, shone with excitement.
"Hello!!" He said with odd cheer. I stared, not knowing why this boy was so cheery. "So, this is where you got to? Hmm not the best of places." He looked around the shack, studying it, before bringing his eyes back to me. He eyed my sword, laughing. "My, my, you are a weird one aren't you?" he laughed and I wondered if he was sane.
"What do you want with me?" I asked. I knew I didn't have much time, as an image of Annabeth with a sword pointed at her face, flashed in my mind. "Please... just leave me alone."
The boy just smiled, making me think he looked to be around Percy's age.
"No I'm afraid I can't do that." I gave him a questioning look and again he laughed. "See, we need you!" He said the last part with so much enthusiasm; I thought he might faint.
"You... need...me?" Why in Hades name would anyone want my help? Did this crazy kid know who I was? "No, I'm sure you don't want my help." Just as I finished my sentence, he snapped his fingers, and two more boys came in, making the small shed quite crowded. I noted how much bigger they were compared to me and Happy Meal boy.
"Who are you?" I asked, hoping to gain at least a little bit of information. What was he going to do to me?
"Who am I?" His smile widened, like it was all just a big game to him. "Who am I? Well I think the real question is who are you? But that's not much of a question seeing as I already know who you are, LUKE CASTELLAN!" Me and his goons jumped at his sudden outburst. I stared at him in disbelief.
"How do you know who I am?" He laughed again, and now I was getting frustrated. Did this kid always act like this? It was driving me up the walls.
"There will be time for that later, but for now, back to who I am." He looked at me with awe, like he couldn't believe I was actually standing in front of him. "I'm your brother of course! Not by mortal blood but by Olympian! I am Danny, son of the great Olympian Hermes!" He threw is arms up and the other demigods took a step back, trying to not get hit.
I wanted to scoff at his mention of Hermes being great. He was anything but great.
He looked at me with a glow in his eyes. "I, Danny, am related to the greatest hero of all time! The one who helped Kronos rise from the great abyss!"
I was seriously starting to think this guy was missing some marbles. Me? The greatest hero?
"I'm not the greatest hero, if you want greatness go find Percy Jackson, he's the greatest hero."
Danny's face suddenly turned fifty shades of red. "Don't you dare speak his name in my presence! Luke, you are the greatest hero! And I'm your number one fan." At the last part he giggled like a little girl, stopping abruptly, clearing his throat.
"Sorry, I got excited," he said sheepishly. I gave one of the demigods behind me a look that said, 'is this guy for real?' The demigod just nodded, seeming almost embarrassed for the young boy.
I sighed. I didn't have time for 'fans'. I needed to get to Annabeth.
Danny turned to his friends, looking over his shoulder, and giving me a big, toothy, grin. Who was this guy? I mean I knew he was Danny, but what planet was he from? Me, the greatest hero?
Whaaaaaaat? He was out of his mind.
He turned away from his whispered conversation, gesturing to one of the boys. "This is Oliver; he will be escorting you back to base." Oliver walked over to me, making a grab at my arm, but I easily sidestepped.
"No, No, NO! I know all your tricks Luke! You will not get away from me this time!" He seemed truly upset and I felt a little bad. But the sympathy quickly diminished when Oliver pulled a rope out, coming at me again. I backed against the wall.
"As much as I'd love to stay and chat, I do have some prior engagements." With that I charged forward. Had Danny anticipated my move, he might have been able to stop me. I jumped over his head, making a clean sweep. I shouted MIA, my shoes shot to life, carrying me into the air.
I looked back at the beach; Danny was whooping and hollering, throwing sand into the air, in a fit of joy at the sight of me flying.
THIS GUY WAS A NUTSO!
Danny was now shouting at his goons, telling them to get me but to make sure they didn't hurt me. I took the opportunity to turn away and shoot into the sky, away from the crazed fan known as Danny.
PRESENT
"Wait a minute, wait just a minute! You're telling me, there's actually a guy out there named Danny? And he's your 'biggest fan'?" Percy was clutching his stomach, trying to contain his laughter. This was the fifth time he was bringing this up.
I sighed, knowing I was never going to finish my story if he kept interrupting. "Yes and yes." I replied and Percy started cackling. His face was scrunched up, mouth hanging open.
Annabeth elbowed him and Percy tried to catch his breath. "Come on Wise Girl, you have to admit that's pretty hysterical! I mean only I would name a guy after his..." Percy stuttered breaking into another fit of laughter. "His *gasp* number *splutter* one... FAN!" Percy could not be stopped.
"Yes, yes it's all very amusing! Now could I please get back to my story?!" I snapped. Percy stopped laughing almost immediately, face contorting into a hard glare.
I squirmed under his gaze. Percy's glares were scary. I muttered out a quick apology but Annabeth just shook her head.
"It's okay. It's been a long night for all of us." She gave Percy a look when she said 'all of us' and Percy looked down at his feet, still glaring. "Why don't you just finish your story, so we can go to bed?"
I nodded in agreement , starting to tell my story once again.
