She sits beside me everyday in all my classes. I feel invisible. I feel like she doesn't notice me. The ache in my chest is growing. "Now class," said Mrs. Thompson., snapping me out of my thoughts. "Since your final project  is coming up, I will be assigning partners today." "Rye Miller and Kate Smith." She looks over at me smiles. She starts saying something, but it's not her voice. "Rye. Rye. Rye!" I look over at my boss. "Rye Miller, your screen is still blank." "Are you having writers block?" "Something like that," I respond. The memory of Kate Smith haunts me everyday. "Rye," she asks. "Yes?" "We have a brand new journalist coming in today. I want you to take her under your wing and teach her everything you know." "Come with me." As we are walking, I see a mixed-range of emotions on my co-workers' faces. Worry, concern, jealousy, anger. As well as joy and surprise. My boss and I take the elevator down to the first floor and walk to the front door to meet the new recruit. When we get there, I stop dead in my tracks. Those eyes, that skin, that hair.
