The weather is a lot warmer today, which means spring is approaching. I look outside of the window, barely able to pay attention to the lecture.
I stare absentmindedly at the dry trees, its branches wrinkled and frail, yet it could support the weight of the birds that rest on it every morning. It hasn't given in to the cold, in fact, it gets through it every year. Nature is a lot stronger, stronger than me.
My mind is stubbornly stuck on replay, replaying the unpleasant memory of last night. It's oppressing, but I know I can't speak of it to anyone. I just don't know how.
"Alright, lunch time." Abby sings, tapping me on the shoulder excitedly. Puzzled, I snap out of my trance and only then I notice class has ended a while ago. Most of the students have packed their bags already.
"Oh, okay." I mutter, starting to pack mine. Time to put on a farce.
"Do you wanna join Clarice and Martha today?" Abby suggests as I rise up from my seat.
"Clarice and Martha?" I raise a brow. "You mean, Clarice and Martha from Student Council?"
"Well, do you know any other girls with the same name?" she grins. "Apparently, Clarice is going to run me through the probation procedures of the club, since according to her, there are now slight changes in order to accommodate the amount of entries we got."
"Then is it okay for me to be there?" I ask.
"Sure it is." She says like it is obvious. "It's not top secret or anything. Besides, if you don't come along, you're not going to have any of my sushi."
"Fine." I nod. "Only because of the sushi."
"Oh c'mon, don't act like you don't want to hang out with more people. We both know that you're just dying to meet new friends." She laughs while leading me out of class to their meetup spot. I follow closely behind her as she continues to share some pre-introduction of her two friends, as if she is trying to prepare me beforehand.
We stop right at the campus park, and Abby starts dashing towards the first vacant picnic table she can find, calling dibs by dumping all her stuff all over it. I probably would've done the same, since it's rare to find a vacant one. She waves for me to join her and I quickly do.
"Man, we're lucky today." She laughs. "I'll just send them a quick text."
"Okay." I say, beginning to unpack my lunchbox. It's just vegetarian pasta with grilled tomatoes at the side, but I'd say it's a pretty decent meal considering I prepared it myself. I really miss eating Mom's cooking, though.
"Right, so where was I?" Abby continues, putting her belongings away to make room for the others. "Ah, Clarice, right. On the surface, being the Student Council President and all may make her look scary, but in truth, she's pretty girly. She hasn't stopped talking about the cute guys in the club for a while, but who would've thought she'd even go there, right?"
