"Do you, Pete Mitchell, take Lauren Blurton to be your lawfully wedded wife?" The priest smiled at me, and I locked my eyes on Pete.
"I do," he choked, water rimming his emerald eyes. My lips turned up into a small smile and tears slipped down my cheeks.
"Without further ado," the priest closed his bible, "you may now kiss the bride."
I didnt hesitate, grabbing him gently by the collar of his navy uniform and pulling his lips into mine.
The crowd erupted into a chorus of whistles and cheers. In this moment, it was just Pete and I. He pulled away and his beautiful green eyes that I fell in love with danced.
"I love you Lauren," his face lit up with the pale glow of the White lights surrounding the arch we stood under.
"I love you too Maverick." I laid my head on his chest and Listened to the soft rhythm of his heartbeat.
"Way to go Mav," Goose approached us, throwing his arm around Pete's neck and clapping him on the back.
"Thanks Goose," Pete gave his hand a firm shake and smiled at his best friend.
"You take care of Maverick, alright?" Goose whispered in my ear as he wrapped me in a hug.
"I will, don't worry." I assured him.
After the wedding reception, Pete and I went to the home we had bought just a few short months ago. The place we would start our new life together.
We spent the whole night loving each other like it would be our last. Little did I know, that would be true for a while.
I was woken up by Pete's soft voice talking on the telephone. I couldn't understand what he was saying because he spoke barely above a whisper.
"Alright, I'll see you soon." He hung up the phone and ran a hand through his dark brown hair.
"You okay Mav," I wrapped my hands around his waist, resting them on his warm skin.
He wouldn't look into my eyes and I felt a twinge of worry in my stomach.
"What's wrong?" I whispered lifting his chin.
His usually bright green eyes were dim and dull. He gulped and rested his hand on my cheek.
"That was the chief, he needs me to go to California for Top Gun." He choked on his words and I could hear the hurt in his voice.
"Oh Pete," my lip began to tremble and I could feel the tears coming.
"I won't go if you don't want me to." He whispered, stroking my cheek with his thumb. I just shook my head and hot tears flowed down my face.
"You can't pass this up Pete, you've been waiting for this all your life and you need to take this opportunity." I smiled and wiped my eyes with the sleeves of his baggy t-shirt I wore to bed.
He kissed my lips gently then rested his forehead on mine.
"I love you Lauren and I always will." He whispered and kissed my head.
"I love you too Maverick." I nuzzled my head in the dip of his neck and held him tightly.
The next day I took him to the airport to catch his flight to California. It was a tough day for both of us. We had just gotten married and now we were parting ways for a long eleven months.
Goose met us there, as he would be joining Maverick at Top Gun.
He gave Pete a hug then came to me.
I threw my arms around his neck and squeezed him tightly.
"You take care of Maverick, alright?" I whispered quietly, trying my best not to cry. He smiled at me and rested his hands on my shoulders, "I will, don't worry."

Time Skip*
I smiled as my hands rested on my stomach, I was nine months pregnant with the child of the love of my life.
"You ready to meet your daddy?" I whispered, seeing the the naval base come into view from the window of the taxi. I had called the chief and worked out a deal with him and he flew me out to see Maverick.
"Here, thank you so much for the ride." I handed the taxi driver a twenty dollar bill and he rumbled away in the little yellow cab.
This place brought back so many memories. My heart skipped a beat as I saw Maverick talking to Goose beside one of the jets.
I was nervous because I hadn't told him that I was pregnant, so I was scared he would be angry with me.
My footsteps echoed in the hangar as I drew closer to where Pete was. Goose locked eyes with me and stopped in the middle of his sentence, wide eyed.
"What is it," Pete asked and he turned to find me. His jaw dropped and his eyes lit up, "Lauren, is that you?"
I nodded, tucking a strand of my dark curly hair behind my ear.
His gaze went from my eyes to my stomach. He looked back to me, then back to my stomach.
He was speechless, as he pointed to himself. "Yes Mav, you're gonna be a daddy to a beautiful little boy."
He jumped with excitement and ran to me, throwing his arms around my neck and kissing me passionately.
"You hear that guys, I'm gonna be a dad!" He yelled, earning cheers and whistles from the others.
I gulped as I felt a warm liquid run down my legs.
"Uh Pete," I yelled. He looked at the floor and saw the puddle at my feet, my water just broke, "It's time."
"No no it can't be," he ran his hands through his hair and paced, "there isn't a hospital around here for miles."
I groaned with pain, clutching my stomach.
"What do we do?" Maverick began to panic.
"Quick somebody get me a towel and a bucket of warm water." Iceman ordered. "What the hell," Pete chuckled at Ice, "since when do you know how to deliver a baby?"
"I don't," he shrugged, "but I've seen those medical shows before. It can't be that hard."
Pete grew really pale, and he falls hard to the ground, passed out cold.

*Maverick's POV

"Mav," my eyes slowly fluttered open and I could hear a muffled cry in the background, "you okay?"
Goose was kneeling beside me, shaking my shoulder.
"What happened?" I groaned, sitting up and rubbing the back of my head.
"You're a daddy Mav, congratulations man." He pointed to a cot a couple feet in front of me.
There was Lauren, holding a tiny little baby wrapped in towels.
I stumbled onto my feet and made my way to her. My eyes lit up and a wide grin spread across my face as I saw him. He was beautiful and perfect in every way possible.
I reached out and touched his tiny hand, and he wrapped his little fingers around mine.
"Welcome to the world little Mav," Goose clapped me on the back and smiled at Lauren and the baby.
"That's perfect!" Lauren exclaimed.
We both look at her puzzled.
"Maverick Thomas Mitchell" she smiled and kissed his little head. She picked the name Thomas after Iceman for delivering him.
"I couldn't agree more." I whispered and held his little hand tightly.
