Shawn ~
"Shawn, honey, can you please come down stairs for a second? I need to tell you something." My mother's sweet voice had called me to go to her and I followed her instructions.
"Yeah, mom?" I asked her, I took a seat on our tiny couch.
"Well, you are always so lonely and-" "Wait a second, I'm not lonely. Where did you get that idea from?" I cut her off from the confusion she obviously had. I literally just sat on the couch. Plus, I'm as happy as I could be. Why would I feel lonely? Of all people too...
"Let me finish, dear. "
"Okay...." I trailed off and let her finish her statement(s).
"Well, you've seemed to be so lonely lately and we don't want you to be upset. So, your father and I," she put her hand on my dad's hand which lied upon her shoulder," have arranged something special for you."
That doesn't sound good. The last time they had something "special" for me was when I had to get my wisdom teeth pulled out.
"Special?"I asked," What is it? Please don't be another dentist appointment." The both slightly giggled. I don't know why, because I couldn't be more serious.
"We've found you a partner!" My mother smiled with glee. What does that mean "we found you a partner?" Like a girlfriend? If so, I'd rather not date the most stereotypical Canadian girl in the world. Wait, what am I thinking? I don't want them messing on my love life at all!
"No thanks." They giggled once more. Was my voice that sarcastic sounding that they thought it was a joke?
"Can you guess what the best part of this is?" She asked me in excitement. Is there a best part in this though? To be honest, I still can't tell if they're being serious or not. This could have easily been one of those really lame jokes that really lame parents do.
"The nice girl we picked out for you is going to be your wife! Isn't that exciting!!" Wow. Did I really sell off that easily? This is a joke! I continued to stare at my parents with my mouth wide open.
" You know, you guys had me there for a second. Me. GETTING MARRIED. Ha ha. I'm going back to my room." I LAUGHED at their ridiculousness .
"Shawn, we're serious. You're going to be married soon."
"No. No, mom. You guys are being ridiculous. No!"
"Shaw-" I immediately cut her off.
"Mom. Dad. You do realize that I'm seventeen, right? Almost eighteen. Eighteen being a LEGAL ADULT. You guys CAN NOT force me to marry someone." I slouched my back into the couch in disgust.
"HEY! We're doing what's best for you. You don't tell us what's right or wrong. You are seventeen, still under our roof. We will do whatever the hell we want to do with. In that case, it's settled. You. WILL. Get. Married. Got that?" She stooped into her chair and breathed for a little bit. "You're going to meet Alyssa tomorrow, early. You might as well pack some bags, because you and her are going to stay in a small apartment together to actually get to know each other. Now, go do it." I was frightened. I had never seen this side of my mom; taking a stand for who's boss. Then there's my dad just standing at her side agreeing with every little thing she says. He's so weak minded.
I couldn't bare this... HUMILIATION. I ran straight up to my room and flopped straight onto my bed.
Married? What the hell? They can't do this to me! I'm only 17 with the big life ahead of me, I'm far too young to get married now! What if she turns out to be a terrible person overall?! My parents will probably just make me marry her for the rest of my life, even when they're dead!
I begin to pack a bunch of my clothes into a bag.
Why am I doing this, giving in?
After a good majority of my clothes are packed, I began to pack my hygiene products on top of my clothes in the same suitcase, zipped it up, and grabbed another suitcase. I packed another suitcase up with some shoes and laptops (and things like that). Will I still be able to hang out with my friends?
All of these stupid thoughts wandered around in my head.
Why me? Of all people, why me? Oh my gosh, I haven't even considered Aaliyah. Will they put her through this too? Oh God, will I be able to talk to her again after this?
I couldn't stop thinking of all the terrible possibilities that could happen to me. After thinking about my now terrible life, I slowly drifted off to sleep with my legs spread apart on my bed and head resting on my pillow.......
