I grabbed my books and pushed the gym doors with my hip. Skylar was close behind me, letting the door slam behind her. I laughed when I heard a frustrated “huff” come from behind the door.

“I’ll see you in Espanol,” Skylar yelled down the hallway.

I dramatically held my heart and waved goodbye. The second that I couldn’t see her anymore, I felt lonely, again.

“Back to business,” I thought to myself. I began weaving my way through the hallways.

You know what I hate? Short people- Well, not all short people, but the sneaky ones who use it to their advantage. Like, here comes the jolly green giant trying to navigate through the halls and you have the audacity to shrink and somehow slither your way under my arm? I am 5’9” and you are 5’ nothing and you think you can be assertive?

Okay, I’m done. Breathe, Felicity, breathe.

I slide in the door just in time for the bell to ring.

Of course, everyone else is already in their seats, so I quickly shuffle to my seat in the back. I look across the room and get a “tsk” from Luke. I jokingly roll my eyes at him. Our English teacher stands up and begins to talk. Cue me, zoning out.

I don’t really know how to describe Luke. He’s like a big teddy bear, to me.

I remember we used to hate each other’s guts when we were kids, but something just kind of clicked one day in our science class. I guess we had a similar sense of humor... Anyways, we started talking a lot in the spare time we had in our classes, and one day he told me something that no one else knew- not even his friends. He told me that he was bisexual, but if his mother knew, she’d kill him. He has a pretty tough life, but he still manages to pull off a perfect grade point average, even when he doesn’t pay any attention. I wish I could do that.

That class always passes the slowest for me… I guess that’s what I get for taking honors English.

I was almost asleep when the bell finally rang again. Everybody packed up their stuff and raced out the door. Why do people have to spaz out to get to their classes first? They’ll knock you over if they have to, I swear.

I slowly packed up my books and lingered in the room until Luke started towards the door.

“Interesting lesson today, don’t you think?” He said, bumping into me.

“I have no idea what happened in there,” I told him, laughing.

“Yeah, I could tell. That room could’ve been on fire and you wouldn’t have noticed.” He smirked.

“I’ve literally stopped caring,” I said, honestly.

He leaned over and examined me. “Fix your bra strap,” He told me before turning down a different hallway.

I turned into my Spanish class and sat down. I usually got there pretty early, so Skylar and I had some time to talk.

She came over and threw her books on the desk behind me. I jumped.

“Did you think of anybody for the lake, yet?” She asked.

I thought for a moment, and then a name popped into my head. “Maybe… But I’m not sure what you’ll think of him.”

HIM? Now what on god’s green earth would make you think that my mother would approve of this?” She rambled.

I gave her a stern look until she stopped talking. “It’s Luke,” I said.

“Oh, well that could be fun, then. But I think my mom would still be suspicious.” Skylar knew that he was bi, too, because Luke told me that I could tell her… but just her.
