I collapsed on my bed as soon as I reached my room.
I stared at my ceilingg,
the tremor,
the fire,
the book... it was all too much. I reached for the play button on my Ipod and waited for the soothing sound of Taylor Swift's voice... I quietly sang along to "Haunted". I calmed a bit, it was strange, how in a time where so much had gone wrong, it seemed like the perfect day. As if on cue my Ipod began playing one of my favorite songs by Lady Antebellum, "Perfect Day" I chuckled a bit. I was in the middle of singing when my mom called from downstairs,
"Saren!! come meet the nice people moving in next door!" next door? that house had been abandoned for as long as I can remember. I silently prayed that it was someone my age, a next door neighbor best friend would be a dream come true. I climbed down the stairs fussing about my clothes hoping I looked alright, I was wearing a light blue sundress, with my hair in a high ponytail. Iwalked to the front door where my mom was chatting away with a motherly figure and a stern- looking man.
Behind them were two children, obviously bored. One a wide eyed young girl, 7 or 8 I guess, blond. The next was a boy with curly blond hair and bright green eyes, he must've played football or something because he was BUILT! He was maybe a year older than me. My mom ushered me outside to "interact" with the kids.
"uh hey!" I said with a smile
"hey, you must be Saren, I'm Gale." The brother said casually.
"hi!! I'm Elizabeth but you can call me Lizzy. Have you been inside our new house? its HUGE! i bet there's tons of secret passages or something!-" the little girl continued to babble on about her new house, I smiled, I love little girls.
Her older brother mouthed "Sorry" over her head. I did the A-OKAY sign with my hand.
"So, do you play soccer?" Gale asked with a grin spreading on his face.
"Yea! I love it! never been on a team but I've been playing for as long as I can remember." I said. "good." he replied, "be right back" he ran to his yard and pulled a soccer ball out of the bushes. We kicked the ball around for a bit, we ended up playing keep away (fairly hard in a dress but possible), finally all three of us collapsed on the soft manicured grass of my lawn, my mom's pride and joy. I was sad to watch them go back to their house. I had a dumb smile on my face as I headed back into the house. today really was a PERFECT DAY.
