I slowly bent up from the garden and dusted my hands, brushing off the moist dirt that was sticking to my skin. I took a step back and marvelled at my work; a whole new row of seeds were planted. I had only just started, though. It had taken me a while to dig up the old dirt and plant the seeds to the project I was working on; a vegetable garden.
You see, the palace usually got their vegetables delivered, which is all good and well, but it was time-consuming. And honestly, I was getting bored with drawing and sitting in the palace. I suppose there was a limit of how many times I could put a pencil to a piece of paper without getting bored. Devin had brought me paints, too, which was relieving for a few days, but even then I yearned to be doing physical activities outside, like gardening.
So when I had suggested the idea to Alisanne, and she happily agreed and said she would get her gardener to start right away, I said I would gladly do it. The gardener probably had enough flowers, lawns, hedges, weeds and trees to take care of anyways.
So you could say, for the past week I have been pretty busy.
I smiled when I felt a strong pair of arms wrap around my waist from behind me. I turned my neck to see Devin’s face only inches from mine, grinning. I blushed when I felt his lips travelling lightly on my hot skin from my neck up to my cheek.
“Good morning,” he whispered seductively between kisses. I felt his hair tickling my face, and I giggled quietly. “I hope I’m not interrupting your gardening.
I raised my eyebrows. “Oh, but you are,” I smirked. He pulled away, leaving his arms wrapped around me and his warm body was against mine. He then rested his chin on top of my head, which was easy enough with our difference in height.
“You’ve been working pretty hard; you are allowed breaks, you know. You can make your own rules, you know, being the queen and all.”
I pointed a finger at him. “Don’t you even go there.”
Devin laughed, which made my stomach squeeze. He flipped his hair out of his eyes, and shook his head, his eyes shining with his smile. “It’s just funny, okay? You could get anyone to do anything for you, and you’re doing the work.”
I sighed, and couldn’t help the smile sliding onto my face. I leaned into Devin. “Hey, you know that I wanted to do this. I get bored easily.”
Devin took a step so he was standing in front of me, and placed his hands on either side of my waist, pulling me closer. “Not with me you don’t,” he winked. Blood rushed to my face, and Devin laughed when he saw this. Damn you, pale Remorna skin.
He leaned down and gently brushed his lips against mine. It was so soft that his lips barely touched mine, but even with that simple touch, I got that small electric feeling that I got every time we kissed, which has been quite often lately, ever since he…well…he confessed.
But we were both aware that we had to keep things on a down-low. That meant no holding hands, kissing, or any romantic sort of embraces in front of anybody, especially Alisanne and Marcus. Why, you may ask? Well, because they didn’t and couldn’t know that Devin and I had already formed the spiritual bond. That is why.
Devin let out a sigh when I pulled away from him, looking disappointed. “Don’t give me that look,” I warned teasingly, brushing a piece of hair out of his face. “We have to keep things low.”
He groaned slightly and pulled me closer to him. “I know, I know,” he sighed. “They can’t find out about the spiritual bond, I get it. But I just don’t see why we can’t simply tell them, Rose. They would want to know.”
