“This… this is Kitaris?” I asked Devin, spinning around to look at the scenery again for what seemed to be the hundredth time. He nodded, and I could see pride gleaming from his eyes. Then like a slap of cold water in my face I realised who I was. My mood dampened a little.
“It’s the kingdom of Kitaris,” Devin clarified. He signalled to the scenery around me. “But just like your human world, it’s very large. There are oceans, mountain-sides, forests, small-town civilisations, and snow down at the south. But this is the main part of Kitaris; the richest, the most popular and the most powerful.”
“So who lives in that castle?”
Devin smiled at me. “My family and I. The royal family.”
My eyes widened and I coughed in shock. “Woah, hold up. You are…like…royal? As in king, queen, prince royal?” Oh goody, not only is Devin life-threatening psychopath, he’s a royal life-threatening psychopath.
He seemed amused at my shock at hearing this news, yet I could tell he was holding back on telling me everything. “You could say that.” He said with a mischievous smile that I wanted to slap off his face badly.
I simply sighed; I’m sure having one more crazy thing added into my life wouldn’t affect me that much, seeming as it was already pretty crazy as it is. In a day, I’ve found out that I’m not even human, my family and friend’s lives were threatened, and that Devin, the guy I could potentially be crushing on and coincidentally enough was the same person to threaten everyone I loved, was like me. And let’s not forget to point out the fact that I just freaking transported to another world.
So much for being a regular teenager.
“Are we going in there?” I asked him, hopeful and excited. If outside the castle looked as good as this, with the golden gates and tall, pearly walls, then I couldn’t wait to see what it looked like on the inside.
“We are,” Devin reassured, “but first, you should probably take out your contacts.”
I was hesitant to do as Devin had told, because I had never shown my true eye colour to anybody other than Jane before. Not even Skye knew about my unusual, violet-coloured eyes. Suck it up, Princess. I turned away from Devin, took them out, and then turned back.
His facial expression was priceless. It actually looked pretty similar to what my face would have looked like when I first saw Kitaris; awe and amazement. “Wow,” he breathed. “They’re…amazing.”
I shrugged and began walking towards the castle feeling uncomfortable and angry at myself because I was blushing, I was blushing for a guy who threatened everything in my life!. “They’re alright. So, what’s going to happen? We’re going to go into the castle thing, I’m going to find out everything I need to know, and then I’ll go home?”
Guilt was written all over his face. It was as easy to read as white font on a black page. He hesitated. "I am going home, right? Devin, that was the deal!" I began hyperventilating. He grabbed my shoulders and looked at me straight in the eyes, but I shrugged out of his grip.
“Of course,” Devin ensured and began walking like nothing had happened, but I could tell he was lying. Liar, liar, pants on fire. You could tell just by his walk but I still decided to go along with it even nervous as I was. I simply nodded, and we continued our way towards the huge, front door that opened to the unknown.
As Devin and I were slowly walking up the stone pathway to the front door, I spotted a person trimming one of the hedges, but I knew that they were a Remorna. When the person, a middle-aged man, spotted me, he froze and stared like he was mesmerized.
