(AN) Yup…this took ages. I’m not going to explain why, just hope everyone likes it (AN)

“Huh?” Beca says as she stares at Jesse and he sighs, running his hands over his face again.

“Yea Beca. I see now that out of all four of you…Jessica included, you knew me the best. We were the closest…I mean you saw me around Jessica…I wasn’t…me. She didn’t like cussing or any sort of vulgar language…She hated how much I watched movies; I know you don’t like movies but if we were hanging out and I had a laptop and a movie, you would sit there and watch…she’d grumble and whine until I shut it off. You were the 1st person I told about my goal to score movies. I think I tried to mention it to her but…I don’t know she just never seemed…interested. I know comparing you two is horrible and I’m a couple years too late, but…I know where I’m supposed to be now.” Jesse finally finishes as Beca rubs her temples, a definite headache coming on.

“Wow. Ok.” She says after a minute of silence. Jesse waits patiently. She can’t take it.

“Ok, quit staring at me, seriously…I…I need process time. I’m going to bed, blankets in the hall closet.” She says hurriedly before quickly making her way to the bathroom. She grabs his clothes and puts them in the laundry, ignoring him as she moves from room to room, eventually locking herself in her bed room.

Jesse’s stunned, not expecting her quick, yet anticlimactic, retreat. But he licks his lips and sighs as he looks down, shakes his head, thinking that she always manages to surprise him and goes for the blankets. It had been an exhausting day.

Beca changes into her pajamas, and climbs under the blankets, she’s tired but her brain isn’t ready for sleep. She knows she could sit here for hours and dissect Jesse’s words, she’d done it many nights in high school, but she had quit that, Jesse Swanson shouldn’t have that effect on her, she should fucking hate him for fucks sake!

It takes a little bit longer than normal for her to fall asleep and when she does; her dreams are filled with Jesse. The same kind she had in high school, the good kind, where he forgot all the other girls and wanted her and only her, and told her so and they would kiss and be together, but then when she would wake up, it was all false, and she would feel empty.

So, when Beca wakes up, sweaty and breathing heavy at 9am the next morning, her 1st thought is that it was all a dream…only to find the sleeping star of said dream on her couch.

Jesse had taken longer to fall asleep, even though he was exhausted and physically comfortable on the couch, his thoughts were focused 10 feet away on the girl in the bedroom. He knew he was on very thin ice, he knew he fucked up really bad. He also knows that he wants her; he’s known a while but felt like timing wasn’t on their side. He wouldn’t be Jesse if he didn’t think of the situation in light of a rom com, maybe there time was now? It’s this question that he eventually fell asleep with rattling around his head, in the wee hours of the morning.

Beca stares at the boy that had been and maybe still is a big part of her life, her lip between her teeth as she thought of how…innocent, he looked as he slept. He stirs and she startles and steps quickly by as if she hadn’t been watching him, going into the kitchen and starting a pot of coffee.

She pulls out her box of lucky charms from the cupboard, some milk and a bowl, thinks about it, then grabs another bowl and 2 spoons, setting the empty one aside as she makes her own, writes a quick note on the pad on the fridge, then brings her cereal back to her room to eat, stopping at the laundry room to put the clothes in the washer into the dryer- His clothes.

Jesses wakes up a few minutes after she had closed her bed room door,  rubbing his eyes and swishing his tongue around his mouth and grimacing at the grimy taste, over the week… or so he was ‘homeless’ the one thing he always did was find a public rest room to brush his teeth twice a day. He stands from the couch, and grabs his tooth brush from his bag on the floor. He knocks on the bathroom door, when there is no answer, he quickly goes inside and does his business, going back out to the kitchen and finding a cereal bowl, spoon, and a box of his favorite cereal of all time, Lucky Charms.
