"James."
"James?"
"JAMES!"
"Wha-- what?" I said, half asleep.
"James, I need to show you something."
It was my brother, Lewis. He's a light sleeper, and easily startled.
"Whats wrong, buddy? Everything OK?"
"No..... I think I saw someone outside, by all of our cars," he said nervously.
"I highly doubt it, buddy. Not too many people live around here. It was probably just a shadow," I said sleepily.
"No it looked like they started limping away, and then I came to you."
"I think you're just seeing things." I looked at the clock. It was 1 in the morning. "It's early in the morning and you are just tired. Go back to sleep, I think you're just seeing things."
"Alright, good night, James."
"Good night, Lewis."

I woke up to the sound of the alarm on my phone. 4 A.M. just like always, although I won't be getting out of bed until 4:15, since I'm a heavy sleeper sometimes. I dragged myself out of the bed and double checked that my pajamas were still on, since I get warm at night and shed layers while I am dreaming sometimes. Once I determined that I was looking well enough to be seen by my friends, I opened my door and went to my brothers room to make sure he was awake. He turned out to still be asleep, so I decided to give him some more time since he didn't need to be up this early anyway. I noticed all the other doors were open, even just a little open usually meant they were awake. I groggily walked down the steps into the main level. I could see the lights from the fireplace and kitchen, so I knew that someone must have gotten up even earlier than me to start making breakfast. I came down the last step and walked over to the fireplace. I stood in front of it for a few minutes, collecting myself and thinking about everything I needed to do before I could leave the cabin for my deer stand. I turned around, and I noticed Sonya at the stove making what looked like eggs from my vantage point. Gregory was sitting on one of the bar stools next to the counter facing inside the kitchen. I heard a shower start running, and knew that someone must be getting ready.
"Morning, sleeping beauty." It was Gregory. He said it without even turning as he sipped his coffee. Greg and I have been friends as long as I can remember, and before that our parents were friends ever since college. He was tall like me, with brownish hair. He worked out a lot so he was in very good shape. We joke about everything, all the time, about anything.
"It's always easy to get up for deer hunting, Greg," I said, not being able to think of anything else.
"You got that right." Sonya added. Sonya was a tall girl, only about 6 inches shorter than me. She had long dark hair and an athletic physique. I met her in high school originally as a friend of a friend. I remember talking to her one day when my friends and I were hanging out in high school and I realized we had more in common than we thought. From then on we became very good friends, always making an effort to talk to each other when we could. We never had a "relationship" more than just friends, but we were more like best friends. We were comfortable enough to talk about anything with each other.
"What's for breakfast?" I asked Sonya.
"What ever you make for yourself, dude," she said.
