Sweet Dreams

I yawn as I pour myself another cup of coffee. A quick glance at the pot and I realize I'll have to brew another soon- it has only a cup left, which means this is my fifth one this hour. A scowl creeps up on my face-if I am drinking this much just to stay awake, it means that any moment I sit down I will eventually fade into sleep. Grabbing the cup, I walk out of the kitchen and set it down on the glass end table. Settling down in the leather armchair next to it, I grab the book that is tucked in the side. The title reads "Dracula". I have always adored this book-the subtle details are enough to make you lie awake at night, unable to sleep. Perfect.

"Don't you want to come play with me?" A girl's voice softly rings.I don't even turn around. It isn't necessary, because I already know where the sound is coming from. "Please? You have been awake for forty eight hours. It isn't fair!" She pleads. For her to be able to speak to me, it means that I am about to fall into her grasp. This isn't a good sign. I grab the remote and turn the television on, and crank the volume up as high as it can go. It doesn't matter to me what is on right now-just that it is loud enough to drown out the gentle voice in my head. I can just imagine how mad she is-there will be hell to pay tonight... Softly I hear a piano in the background, playing a familiar tune. It's soft, and sounds like waves gently flowing up and down on a beach with the way it keeps circling, up and down on the piano. If you listen close enough, you can almost hear a voice gently humming along, accenting the crescendos, getting more intense, and then backing off, softly so it doesn't startle you. I can feel my body start to relax, my gaze not focusing on the pages anymore, and just willing themselves to drift closed. A spark of panic flows through me as I realize what this tune is-it's Moonlight Sonata! This is bad, this is really bad.I force my eyes open. It's too late. I look up to find myself in a dark forest. In front of me, there in a clearing in the trees, just large enough for a grand piano, and the figure sitting on a bench in front of it facing away from me. She gently presses each key, just enough for the sound to reverberate through the masses of black trees around us. Softly, she holds out the final chord. It is like this every night. She always lulls me to sleep using her piano, and then relishes in the fact that I can't get out if I'm in her world-the dream world. She then makes me wait until her lullaby is finished-I cannot move a muscle even if I wanted to. It may be my dream, but don't get confused-she is the ruler here. She controls everything, and there is nothing I can do but try to appease her. She turns around beaming. There is something about her that is different tonight-I cannot place it but it sends shivers down my spine.

"As beautiful as ever, Arabella" I say in the most sincere voice I can manage.

"Really? It is one of my favorites!" She smiles even wider.

"Really"

She is standing up, and coming closer to me-I force myself to stand too because I learned a while ago that this is how she likes it.Walking closer still, she stops a foot in front of me, her elf-like face staring straight into mine. I notice something is off-her dress isn't the usual flowing, floor length pale green one like it is every night. Instead she is wearing one that just barely covers her knees, with tight lace sleeves instead of the kind that are wide and flowing.

"New dress?" I ask, trying to place where the chills were coming from.

"Yes! I made it myself!" She says staring at me while the smile slowly fades from her face.

"You know what it is good for?"I gulp-this isn't like her. Lifting a finger, she wills her long platinum hair up into a ponytail, securing it with a willow branch. She steps closer, and I try to resist the urge to step backwards. Shivering, I notice a change-strands of black are growing through her nearly-white hair, and starting to spread. Looking down, I see white lace start to be stained with the dark midnight black color of the trees surrounding us. I don't want to look up, I already know what she will look like. Calm, ocean blue eyes turned to the blood red of an alpha with a slit pupil just like a cat would have, and long fangs sticking out from her upper lip.

"Chasing someone" she whispers, breathing ever so softly in my ear.I don't even know if she finished transforming before I started sprinting. The sound of my blood rushing and my heart beating heavily resounds in my ears. I almost don't hear her when she laughs, and yells after me.

"See you in your dreams... Yeah baby. I'll still be there if it's a nightmare"

In the distance, I can hear howling. This was not going to be a fun night.

Okay, I have to admit that I simply adore this cover of "Papermoon" from Soul Eater, by LeeAndLie. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I have had it on repeat. The one part that gets me every time is "See you in your dreams... Yeah baby. I'll still be there if it's a nightmare". I love it. It perfectly embodies the anime, plus it made wonderful inspiration for this. Make sure to check some of her other wonderful works~You will not be disappointed!
