I ran my hand through the unruly black hair on my head. I watched the shadows on the streets below me, making them do funny things. Like flick off people, or try and murder each other. Funny. I loved being in control of the shadows because if I concentrated hard enough, the people would move too. It was still lonely though. Sure it was cool at times, but I never really got to have an actual conversation like regular people do. I sound so whiny and bitchy. Huh,guess my stepsister is rubbing off on me.
"Danielle! You have a visitor!" Cried my stepfather, John. I raised an eyebrow. Who is visiting me I don't know anyone. I exited my room cautiously, staring at the intruder. He had soft tufts of black hair flying everywhere and deep chocolaty eyes. He looked pale, very pale much like myself. He looked like he could be my brother. He was wearing a black shirt with a skull on it, a black Aviator jacket, black skinny jeans, and black converse. Nice sense of style.
"Are you Danielle Washington?" He asked. His voice held youth, he sounded about 15 or 16. I nodded at him, curiously watching the stubborn shadow he owned. "I'm Nico di Angelo. Nice to meet you." Nico held out his hand for me to take. I stared at it for a second hesitantly taking it. His hand was cold, sending shivers down my spine.
"Why are you here?" I asked. Nico's grip tightened, an unknown emotion flashing in his eyes.
"I was wondering if we could talk," Nico glowered at John. "Alone." John nodded in fear, scurrying out the living room.
My eyes narrowed at him, he was special I could tell. "I know you can control the shadows," Nico said. "You don't know what you are, Danielle." I ripped my hand from his grip. Gazing back at his unmoving shadow.
"Can you do it too?" I whispered. He shook his head.
"I can travel through shadows." He answered truthfully. I stared quizzically at him. "Danielle sit down." I sat on the couch and Nico sat beside me.
"Your father is Erebus. He's the Greek god of darkness and shadows. You're the only demigod child of him that we know of." Nico murmured. My eyebrows furrowed.
"Demigods like the Percy Jackson series?" I asked. Now it was his turn to be confused. "The what series?" He asked. "The Percy Jackson series. It's Percy's whole demigod life from when he was twelve to the end of the second titan war against Kronos. Don't worry Nico, you're in it too." I explained.
Nico's mouth hung open, like he was not suspecting that explanation. "Ok so I'm guessing we have to go because they're getting agitated." I stated to him,the silence wasn't helping my ADHD. He looked at me questioningly. "What do you mean by they're getting agitated?" He asked. I did something I've been experimenting with for a while. The shadows. They are getting agitated, something is coming.
I made them whisper. Nico jumped about five feet in the air. I laughed. "You should've seen your face!" I giggled. Whoa I don't giggle! What is going on with me?!?! I wondered. "How did you do that?!?!" Nico exclaimed. "Its easy. You know how you can hear ghosts whisper to you?" He nodded. "Well I can do the same thing, except with shadows and I can do it to where we can have a normal conversation." I stated. After a while of silence I said
"Well! Let's head to camp half-blood shall we?" Standing up and offering Nico my hand. He took it hesitantly. " I'll show you my way to travel." I told him. I then made an oval shaped shadow and stepped into it,pulling Nico after me. We then transported to half-blood hill, just as a dog came bounding straight for us.
