I felt all groggy when I woke up, and it took about a good five minutes for my eyes to adjust. I was in a light blue room with about 4 other beds besides mine, all of which were empty. It seemed exactly like an infermary to me. I was still in a sort of dream state, so I slowly lifted my body to lean on the wood headboard. Then, I looked at my arm.
That's what brought me back to reality. It was wrapped up tightly with some kind of deformed purple ace-bandage. I felt a jolt of pain race up my arm and I grabbed it instinctively. A deep groan left me and I sat there in a lonely silence as the pain subdued. Ugh, what was going on? I had no idea where I was, what I was doing, and even how I got here. Wait, I started to remember the latter. Some kid with green eyes had shot a dart in my arm and probably abducted me from the "Mystical Madam Maria." Last time I saw her, she was crying. Gosh, I wonder how long I've been out. Maybe a whole day, and authorities were already looking for me. Maybe half an hour, and my aunt "Maria" was still trying to understand what had happened. I needed answers.
I dragged both my legs to the side of the bed, and used my good arm to help me up. As I stood up, I felt a second of dizzyness and nausea, so I grabbed the headboard to give myself a moment to adjust. My eyes stopped rolling and my head stopped banging. I started walking slowly and limply out of the room. The injury didn't look too serious, and I wasn't too weak, yet I acted like I was the walking dead. Looking down at my feet I realized I was wearing the same T-Shirt, jeans, and sneakers from 'Maria's." Other than a new hole in my jeans and a dirt smudge on my shirt, they were exactly the same.
Trudging into the hallway, I no longer felt this was a hospital. I honestly don't know how to describe it. Just taking a step out made me feel infintely better, like I could run a mile without sweating. The sensation was strange, but I loved it. I walked with more life in my step to the other rooms. There were a bunch of classrooms, and a couple of weird green house rooms with a lot of neon colored plants. Forgive me, but I was scared to go into any.
As I continued my excursion into the halls, I realized that the entire building must be empty except for me. I could hear myself breathing, and there was no sign of people anywhere. That creeped me out. But of course, I spoke too soon because I finally reached a classroom that was filled with about 18 kids. Standing in the doorway, they all looked at me with confusion, and I returned the favor. Green eyes was there. It started getting awkward, just standing there. Of course, I had to make it worse.
"Hi, where am I?" I blurted out.
I expected green eyes to answer, considering he's the one who brought me here, but he didn't. A man, who I assumed was the teacher, answered.
"Well, right now your in Flora & Fauna 101." he replied with a hint of sarcasm in his voice. I don't think he realized I, oh I don't know, kidnapped!?
Then, green eyes stood up. "She's part of the recruit program, sir. She was brought here last night, and recovered from minor wounds. Her classes start next lesson." he said in monotone, his eyes gleaming with the air of responsibility.
"Very well, Caspian. You are excused from class to give our guest an idea of where she is. I imagine she is very confused." the man decided.
Wow. I've been here for a night. I had minor wounds. I'm going to a class, in the middle of the summer. His name is Caspian, and he's going to answer my questions. Caspian.
He walked out of class and gestured me to follow him. As we descended into the hallway, he simply said, "I'm assuming you've heard of magic?"
