It was a typical Saturday afternoon, 12:45pm to be exact. The sun was shining, the birds was chirping, the squirrels were running freely, sounds of kids running around playing filled the air. You could hear the ice cream truck, and the roars of cars passing by in the distance. Music to my ears. Forest Hills was home to me. The only home I'll ever know.
I wiped the sweat that was building up on my forehead as I walked in the gas station with my friends; Miguel, Aubrey, and Kendrick. We was more than friends, we was brothers. We met each other in grammar school, and then we all went to the same high school. We had just graduated a couple months ago and none of new what the hell we wanted to do with our lives.
Me personally, I wanted to be a rapper, but according to my mother I should be a Harvard Law School graduate making six figures, cause she don't see rapping being a realistic career for me. I love my moms to death, but for real though, she had no room to tell me what I should or shouldn't do with my life when she some where scraping pennies right now. Busting her ass working two jobs cause pops bailed out on her.
She often tries to give me and my brothers and sisters little pep talks about life but we don't be listening to that shit, we all say she just bitter that dad left. At the end of the day, I appreciate her for the little things she do like keep a roof over my head, keep food in the fridge, and clothes on my back. Since I been working this summer job at the grocery store, I been keeping money in her pockets every now and then. My oldest brother Bryant goes to the community college. He works a full time job, and he thinks he better than the rest of us, but little do he know we don't give a fuck.
"Yo J, grab me a bag of Doritos!" Aubrey yelled as he went to the back of the store where the drinks were.
"Iight don't forget my Sprite bitch," I laughed as I grabbed a few bags of chips along with his Doritos. We made it to register and everybody piled they junk food on the counter top.
"Yo Miguel man you better have money for yo half this time," Kendrick laughed.
"Fuck you bitch, I got enough money for you and all the rest of yo brothers at the welfare office," he snapped back.
"Ooooo!" I said as I fell out laughing. "Fuck you you ol El debarge, prince head ass, Purple rain purple rain head ass nigga," Kendrick said . Me and Aubrey both fell out laughing.
"Y'all niggas crazy," Aubrey laughed. These was my niggas. That's all we did, joke around, crack on each other but it was all love.
Once we paid for our shit we hopped back inside Aubrey's beat up truck. Man his shit was so raggedy, I was embarrassed to be seen in his shit sometimes, but fuck it it beat riding the bus.
"Yo Aubrey, turn the radio on man," I said as I rolled down the window and cracked open my bottle of Sprite. Young Jeezy's song Go Getter began to blast throughout the car.
"You know we in the trap all day, play all night, This is the life of a the life of a go getter, go getter," I said as I bopped my head up and down.
We was all was vibing to the beat. "Yo Jeezy that nigga," I said as I opened a bag of hot Cheetos.
" man who y'all think the best rappers are?" Aubrey asked.
