***Chapter 13***

“Hey Katie.” a masculine voice came from in front of me.

I looked up to see Adrian standing next to my locker. I raised my eyebrows in surprise at his presence, I was sure he had left Calculus after me because he was sitting next to me again.

“What’s up?” I asked casually. Behind him I could see Daisy talking to Finn and Jason was nowhere in sight.

“Not much. I was just wondering what you’re doing after school.” he said running a hand through his dark hair.

“What? Oh yeah.” I said not paying attention to what he was saying. I was still staring at Finn over Adrian’s shoulder. Of course Daisy could talk to people without her boyfriend being around, so why was I being judgemental? Just because they were talking didn’t mean anything was going on. “Wait what did you say?” I asked looking back at the boy in front of me.

“I asked if you were free after school.” Adrian frowned and ran his hand through his hair again making it more tousled than before.

“Oh sorry, no I’ve got to work.” I said quickly glancing again over his shoulder. Do my eyes deceive me or did Daisy just feel Finn’s bicep? Urgh I was being weird again. I drew my eyes off the scene in front of me with the thought that I could ask Finn later before half-smiling at Adrian.

“That’s fine then.” Adrian said dismissively.

“I’m sorry, but I’m free on Friday, I think.” I said quickly, not wanting to hurt him.

The look on Adrian’s face when I said that made me feel bad. He looked so hopeful and here I was agreeing to go on a date with him, when I was already pretty obsessed with Finn.

“Cool, do you want to go out after school?” he asked, hope glinted in his green eyes and I knew I’d feel worse if I rejected him now. I nodded slowly and put my last books away in my locker as I saw Emma out of the corner of my eye.

“Come on Katie.” she said linking arms with me quickly. She smiled shyly at Adrian before dragging me out into the parking lot on our way to work.

“What’s it like living with Annie?” she asked as I kicked at the leaves that had fallen on the ground. The seasons were really out of whack at the moment.

“It’s fine; don’t forget I’ve only been there for a few days.” I said glancing at the ever-so-familiar café ahead of us.

“What about Finn? What’s he like?” Emma probed deeper and I blushed madly even at the mention of his name. I tried to wave it off, but Emma was my best friend and she knew exactly how to get information out of me. “I will tickle you, even in the middle of the road.”

“Please don’t.” I shivered even at that thought. “Ok well I don’t see him that often, but I mean we talk and it’s nice and friendly.” I put emphasis on the last word and Emma look disheartened.

“We both know you want more though.” She said as her spirits picked up swiftly.

“I know, but I barely know him and anyway don’t you think it would be awkward because we’re living together and I’m such good friends with Annie.” I tried to change the subject.

“Yeah and Annie’s going out with Jake, who is one of Finn’s best friends.” Emma reminded me. I shrugged, but smiled internally. Knowing Emma she would go on about those two until we got to the café.

I guessed right and when we went to clock in with Lez it took a few minutes to get Emma to shut up. We took two tills next to each other and Emma got down to her next piece of gossip.

“So why were you talking to Adrian?” she asked with what seemed like a tiny hint of jealousy, but my mind was probably playing tricks on me.

“We were just talking?” I said as I turned to make another coffee. Unfortunately it came out as more a question than a statement and Emma raised an eyebrow at me.

“And the truth?” she asked looking at me knowingly.

“He asked me out.” I said quietly. Emma’s eyes doubled and her jaw dropped.

“No. Way.” She said after a moment.

“Yes way.” I laughed awkwardly and tried to break the tension. “You should see your face right now.” I giggled.

“So when are you going out?” she asked, the smile was erased from her lips.

“Friday, I think.” I said. Emma nodded and disappeared off with some drinks. Not a moment later Laila came and stood next to me.

“Hey Katie. Have you just got back from school?” she asked pleasantly.

“Yeah. Have you?” I asked before I could stop myself. What if she wasn’t at school because she definitely wasn’t at school with me? I glanced at Laila quickly, she was petite, but she still looked quite old, maybe the same age as me or older and I was a senior.

“Yeah I have. It takes me a while to walk here though.” She said tucking a strand of her silky hair behind her ear.

“Where do you go to school?” I asked, casually playing around with some of the buttons on the till.

“Johnson High.” She said and turned to serve someone.

Johnson High was Carter High’s sworn rival. They were on opposite sides of town and every sport season they had the most anticipated matches of the year. We were reigning champions at football, but they often beat us at basketball.

My shift ended not long later and Emma and I walked back to Annie’s house. It was her first time visiting and I was quite sure she would be just as taken aback as I was. Back at the house the three of us sat in my room discussing my date which I had managed to forget for a while.

“We’re going to pick your clothes.” Emma said finally.

“No way, I’m just going to wear what I normally wear to school. I’m not coming back here after lessons.” I argued. Emma looked put out, but agreed after a while.

Annie and I ignored Emma’s scheming and turned on the TV and soon got engrossed in the show. All thoughts of Friday were pushed to the back of my mind and I stretched out of the soft rug and relaxed for the rest of the evening.

Today I managed to get lost in the middle of Greece with my friend because I thought I was going the right way to the local town. Turns out I wasn't and we walked an hour to a different town before we realised we had no idea where we were and had to turn back.

If there was any moisture left in my body I would've cried with happiness when I saw our hotel and somehow (magically) we made it back alive, though it was a bit touch and go at some points and my friend almost flagged down a random Greek to help us get home...

Still, I'm alive and here's the udpate, I can't really remember what day it is anymore so I have no idea if this is the right day, but enjoy anyway.

xoxo
