Brynn's pov

The amount of times we've been shut in the vistor's lounge is getting ridiculous!
"We need to go to the asylum! We need to catch the Queen!" I repeat over and over. This time it's me who's pacing, not Mackenzie.
Lucas and Kenzie just stare at me.
"You want to take on a serial killer single handedly?"
"Yes!"
"Are you insane?"
I huff, then try again.
"All we have to do is leave the station and walk or drive to the asylum, then-"
Lucas interrupts me.
"Brynn, are you actually nuts?!"
I raise my voice to drown him out.
"Then, we go inside, disable the bomb and arrest the Queen before-"
"There is no way in hell that I'm going to let you act the martyr and watch you get killed!"
"I'm not going to get killed! And why the hell not anyway?!"
"Because I love you Brynn!"
The air seems to have been squeezed out of my lungs.
"You what?" I ask quietly.
Kenzie makes an odd choking noise. We both turn to look at her and she blushes and stands up hurriedly.
"I'm going to give you guys some privacy. I'll be outside." She says before practically running for the door out of sheer embarrassment.
"You heard me." Lucas rakes a hand through his hair leaving it sticking up at odd angles.
This is what I've wanted to hear for a long time isn't it?
"You love me?" I repeat.
"It's not a question Brynn. It's a fact."
"A statement that cannot be questioned." I recite almost subconsciously.
He grins ruefully.
"I didn't mean for you to find out that way."
"No?"
"No. But I'm glad in a way. If it means you won't be able to push me away after this whole thing ends then I'm glad you found out."
"I'm not going to push you away."
"Why? You always have before."
"I didn't know then."
"Know what?"
"That without you, I'm not complete."
We stare at each other for a minute that seems to last years.
"I'm going to kiss you now Brynn Rumfallo."
His lips brush mine and speak the words that even I can't explain.
It all makes sense now. Everything makes sense.
The moment is perfect. Beautiful and everlasting. But then it ends.
It ends because of the scream.
The scream that chills me to the core.
The scream that I never imagined I'd hear.
The scream that can only have come from Mackenzie.
I bolt for the door, flinging it open. Hurtling down the corridor I pass three security guards. All lie dead. All have cards.
I read the numbers as I run.
"Three. Two. One."
I nearly run past the ace.
It's lying so unobtrusively on the floor. I pick it up and read the words written there.
"Almost fitting that, as it began with a Ziegler, so it would end with another."
