CHAPTER FOUR
SPLASH
"The mosasaurs was thought to have hunted near the surface of the water where it preyed on anything it could sink it's teeth into; including a turtle, large fish and even smaller mosasaurs."Surprisingly, the line for pizza was rather short and the three were able to get something to eat in half an hour so they were able to take their time upon coming back to the mosasaurs feeding show. Zach and Gray had a little siblings quirril on the way back from getting lunch so Loren has forced herself in between the two boys on the bench seat.
Because of the later arrival compared to others, the only seats available were the ones in the splash zone. As much as Loren didn't care much about her hair, she still cared enough to not want it to get wet and even more tangled then it already was, Zach too was also reluctant to sit in the splash zone but they didn't have much of a choice unless they wanted to stand up.
Loren looked at a conveyer belt which moved a dead Great White Shark into the centre of the tank, hanging in the air a great distance higher than Loren would like while in the splash zone. Every one seemed to watch silently as the lady said, "Let's see if she's still hungry after already eating today."
Loren turned to the two boy as saw that Gray had all eyes on the show while Zach was once again had his face stuck to his phone as he hunched over looking at a photos of his short lived ex 'love' who had sent him a flirtatious image, his face in a scowl.
"Just block her number if she's going to do that and you're going to scowl like that." Loren sighed, the boy looking up to her then to the little boy that started nudging the two, saying that the show was about to begin.
Just as the two teenagers turned their heads away from one another, the mosasaurs jumped out of the water grabbing its prey with its mouth and twisted in order to pull the shark from the string. Falling back into the water caused quite a chaos. There were a lot more adults compared to kids in the splash zone but that didn't stop them from screaming as the cold water splashed across their body, cooling them down in the heat of the island.
"Oh my gosh! That was awesome!" Grey yelled out, Loren catching most of the yelling in her ear.
Loren let out a laughed, actually having fun at this island which is what she Came here to do. A lot more places should have viewing bleachers like the mosasaurs feeding did. As Loren looked at her soaking wet clothes, she thanked the heavens for not having worn white as her black tank and cargo pants were stuck to her body like a second skin, she was lucky the clothes were thick enough to keep her body mostly unseen.
Loren turned to Zach who was giving out a genuin laugh and smile, first time since they showed up here - he actually look happy. Zach turned to Loren hair in his eyes as he looked up to her own hair -which she had luckily tied in two space buns at the resort hotel to keep her hair off her neck- and laughed again, reaching out to touch it,
"Don't touch my hair." She laughed, but she couldn't shake the butterflies in her stomach as she looked at the boy in a soaking wet t-shirt, and nor could Zach as he look at her.
"Everyone hold on tight. We are going to give you an even closer look at our mosasaurs."
The seats began to lower themselves as they descended down to see the mosasaurs under water, ripping the shark to pieces. Everyone was on the edge of their seats as they watched, everyone clapping at the extended viewing of a dinosaur ripping to pieces It's food.
"It's got 88 teeth!" Gray informed the two, as they continued to watch the dinosaur eat the large great white.
"Do you wanna go see something else cool?" Zach asked, the two but he was mainly asking his little brother.
"Yeah!" Gray laughed out, excited.
As they waited for the show to finish, Zach decided to test the waters of his beating heart. He looked down to notice Loren's hands were both holding onto the bench seat either side of her as she stared out to the mosasaurs with sparkles in her eyes.
Zach gently grabbed a hold of her wrist to slowly get her to let go of the bench, which she did,
Looking at the boy in confusion wondering if something was wrong. Zach wasn't entirely sure what was going on but he slid his hand into her own and smiled before looking back out at the end of the exhibit. Slowly, Loren laced her fingers with his and butterflies erupted in the two of them.It wasn't odd for the two to hold hands, nor was it odd for Loren and Zach to hold hands with Marcus, they all had a pretty open friendship where no two person was more special then the other. But in times like this, it wasn't normal to hold hands.
Loren looked up again as Zach wasn't looking and saw a smile on his face, his eyes sparkling with enjoyment.
The three teenagers were walking towards the metro train station in order to get to their next destination which Zach called a secret, the sun and heat slowly warmed them and dried their clothes to a point where they were no longer going to get a rash by walking in wet clothes.
While the teenagers walked, Loren in front, her hair almost dried in their seperate buns, Zach couldn't help but watch as she walked with that determined look but still having an eager bounce in her step. The flyway pieces that she hadn't tied into the buns, bounced with her steps, and some wet pieces still clung to the back of her neck. Her cargo pants still clung to parts of her legs, having been a thicker material to her top.
Zach was confused by the butterflies he caught earlier when seeing her and holding her hand. He had always seen her as a friend, as a sister, so why is he now looking at her like she's another popular pretty cheerleader at their school. Why is she now all of a sudden, beautiful.
He couldn't think of her in this way, he won't think of her in this was. Marcus has always called dibs first, has always liked her more then a friend, he couldn't do this to him. It wasn't fair. The group all clicked so well with each other, that he had no idea whether he clicked more with Loren or she clicked more with Marcus.
He had always seen her in less of clothes and covered in water from Marcus's pool and going to the beach, yet he never felt much other then knowing she was beautiful, so why now? Why does he get the butterflies now of all times.
"You're staring." Gray flatly spoke. Zach quickly shushed his younger brother as Loren turned around to scowl at the two, she didn't think Zach was staring at her but some other pretty girl else where as he always had.
"I am not staring." He growled back as Loren finally turned around with a roll of her eyes.
"Sure."
Yes, Zach did believe he had a problem.
