CHAPTER TWELVE
KISSES
"Guys." Clair called, exahspersted as Zach stood, dusting himself down of dirt. She motioned the three teenagers to follow her, which they did, and she led them towards the back of a van, opening the doors and telling them to jump in."I'm not getting into that!" Lo hissed, looking inside the death trap that looked largely unsafe in so many ways.
"Well, you're gonna have to." She said sternly, the three younger kids sharing a worrisome look, Zach shrugging. "It's for your own safety."
"Whatever." She sighed, before following the two boys into the van, the two being the first to hike themselves into the metal interior. Loren took a seat on the side of the truck's limited seating where there was a slight raise.
"Alright fasten your seat belts." Clair ordered, waving her hand absently as she scarcely watched the three teens. The three looked around them to see that the back had no seats and gave the woman a confused look, "Hold hands."
The younger of the three quickly looked towards Zach whom took the middle of the seats and they both grabbed either hand instinctly, holding onto him as if he was going to save them from this nightmare. Clair closed the doors after making sure the three were okay and walked towards the drivers seat, leaving them in silence. The three let out shaky breaths as they looked around their metal confines, a loud screech coming from a raptor echoed outside, causing the group to jump closer together due to their nerves.
"Nothing's getting in here... right?" Gray asked, a silent sob threatening to escape his lips as he looked up hopefully towards his brother. Zach looked down towards his younger brother and gave his hand a reassuring squeeze. Lo watched on in worry as she hopped that Zach would be kind to his younger brother after all the times he had been rude, however she knew that this was his time to be the elder brother.
"Hey, remember that time there was a ghost at the old house, the one in the garage?" Gray gave a hesitant nod. "I protected you right?"
"You made a battle axe out of toilet rolls and a paper plate." He whispered, causing a goofy smile to be forced onto Zach's face and a slight chuckle to leave Loren's lips.
"Yeah! See nothing is going to get you while I'm around." Zach smiled down towards the boy, looking towards Loren as well to make sure she too was okay.
"Something might get you while I'm around. I've got bad luck!" Loren laughed, joking around. Hoping the relive the tense mood slightly.
"You do seem to be in the wars today." Zach laughed agreeing with her.
"Yes. But you see, none of us are leaving this earth today. The only thing that we will be leaving today is this god forsaken island!" Lo huffed, repeating so within her head to make sure she believed what she spoke.
"Does that also happen in your movie?" Zach's voice wavered, as if he wasn't quite sure on what to believe in, despite not wanting to worry his brother more, he had done so well so far to play the big unafraid hero. Lo could tell just by looking at him that he was at war with himself.
"Zach, are you okay?" She asked, moving closer towards the boy whom only nodded and looked to his younger brother. Confusion blossomed inside her brain as the two brothers seemed to have a private discussion.
The only thing she was able to get from the conversation was Gray saying, "You two are going to have a million babies." In a sing song voice, while Zach covered his mouth to shushed his brother.
"Guys, hello. I'm Lo, I'm Zach's best friend but it seems he has forgotten about me since I'm all alo-" Loren had failed to finish her sentence due to Zach cutting her off by grabbing her hands and suddenly staring at her with a foreign look.
"We've been friends for quite some time, right?" He asked causing Lo to nod her head hesitantly, "And sometimes when you're friends... other feeling arise."
"Hurry up and get to the point!" Gray hissed, getting annoyed at his brother. Zach's face flushed as he looked to the roof, biting his lip so he can hold back the internally argument he has ready for the boy whom just convinced him to kiss his best-friend because it was 'now or never'.
"It's okay, take your time. We literally have no where else to go." She laughed, her heart raising to her throat causing her breathing to slow. He looked so attractive in this state that she just wanted to kiss him. So that's what she did. If it weren't for his previous statement, she would have never been so gutsy.
The kiss wasn't as good as she had imagined, but then she had also never imagined that her first kiss would be in the back of a truck while there were literal dinosaurs on the lose that could very much kill them at any point. Her lips wavered as his eyes closed, Leaning into the kiss. Their lips were chapped from the heat, they were sitting uncomfortably towards one another, however it didn't matter to Loren as she was kissing her bestfriend, her crush.
The kiss didn't last long, and Gray made sure of that as he clapped his hands together, "That's enough now, save it for when we're off this island." He giggled, picking on his elder brother as a chance for them to forget the fears of the outside world. Heat quickly rose to their cheeks, leaving Zach blushing.
"I'm gonna kill you!" He hissed out.
"Oi." Loren laughed at the two, still holding Zach's hands. "You're not going to do that." She quickly pulled Zach away from his younger brother and swapped seats, taking the middle seat for her own. "One minute you boys love each other, the next you want to rip each other's throats out."
A commotion sounded from Clair's tablet causing the three to turn towards the little window which separated the women from them and opened it slowly and quietly, looking through to see what was happening. They watched as Owen rode his bike through the Forrest alongside the raptors, the video feed being strapped to the raptors head.
"Your boyfriend is a bad ass." Loren complimented, smiling down at the woman.
"Yours isn't." Gray snickered. Clair looked back confused at why the kids were watching the feed but also curious that Loren had a boyfriend. She hadn't known that.
"Just because someone kisses you, doesn't mean you are dating!" The girl hissed back, annoyed at the boy from ruining a moment she was having with Clair, or the lack there of.
"Who did you kiss?" Clair asked, wondering if it was her nefew or someone else.
"Loran kissed Za-" Zach quickly lent behind Loren and placed a hand over the child's mouth, the rest of his name getting muffled into his brother's hand. However Clair had gathered whom it was and she laughed.
"Should've known. I was confused when I heard Zach was only bringing a friend and even more confused when his friend was a girl. I would've thought he'd at least bring his girlfriend." Clair laughed.
"Oh, he had one but they broke up before we got here." She chuckled, Zach giving her a hurtful look.
"Yeah, because you and Marcus dared me to date her!" He huffed, still annoyed that he ever dated her in the first place.
"Well now you're free to date Loren all you like." Gray said, Clair giving the pair a small smile.
They shared a small silent smile and agreement that they were to speak of this later when they were alive and okay before turning back to the monitor, watching the feed before Clair said, "No, no. you guys aren't watching this." And closed the window with their loud protests to stop.
