Sink Chp.1 Olivia
32 minutes. 18 seconds. That's how long we have left until America starts to sink. First, the water will flow in. My parents won't stop telling me that everything will be okay, and that they love me. We all know that the "everything will be okay" part won't ever be true.
27 minutes. 5 seconds. We are driving. Fast. I wish that we could get to the airport faster, but it seems like everyone is trying to get there. The sad thing is, my family knows that we may get separated, or worse, never get to see each other again. We have to enjoy these last moments while we can!
21 minutes. 57 seconds. When we arrive at the airport, everything is frantic. People are screaming, children are crying. What if... What if we can't get out in time? The Hamptons will definitely be flooded soon. I loved my old home... All of the Hampton's private jets are long gone, so we had to go to the local airport for once. Yeah, we are rich. So how come we are still here? How come were aren't in our Italian penthouse like all of the other Hampton families?
17 minutes. 9 seconds. "All of our seats for children are full. Only adult tickets will be accepted from here on," says an airport employee over the speakers. My parents already bought their tickets because adult seats were supposed to run out first. My parents are both crying, hell we are all crying. This is over. I'm over. My life is over.
6 minutes. 2 seconds. I have one option: get on a bus and go to a safe house in Oklahoma. Oklahoma will be gone in three weeks, but by then planes will have been sent over to get us. My parents are off to China, and my brother and I are off to Oklahoma. Maybe there is still hope in this world. Maybe. I hug my parents goodbye, never wanting to let go. This is the hardest thing I've ever done. I have to let go, for my life, for my brother. I take Scott's tiny eight year old hand and jump on to the bus heading straight into my future.
0 minutes. 0 seconds. The bus finally starts moving. Watch timers beep, all at once. Our time is up! I can even see water in the distance. "STEP ON IT!" Someone yells. The driver does, intact, step on it. Goodbye 17 year old rich life, hello 17 year old survival life. My name is Olivia Bentley and this is the story of how I'm going to die.
