19 Minutes. 32 Seconds. I didn't know it at the time, but that was how much time of my "normal" life was left. Before America will start to sink, combining the Atlantic and Pacific ocean, covering all American life as we know it. Our family wasn't to skeptical of the skyscraper being built in downtown Oklahoma City, we expected an Apple headquarters, or an attempt at the tallest building in the world, nothing like this; but as i said, i knew none of this at the time.
My name is Nathan Mcguire, I live in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In the slums. My life kinda sucks right now, I have 1 meal a day, lunch, I have practically no energy, and I share a room with my 2 brothers and 2 sisters. So yeah...
12 Minutes. 3 Seconds. My older sister Lucy, and my parents weren't home at the time, they had left to Atlanta, Georgia. They were trying to find my dad a job that was more reliable, not a "cancer curing pill" salesman. Them being in Atlanta of course would mean death soon, the coast would erode into the ocean, and continue eroding to Oklahoma, right where I am.
Lucy was 19 years old, making me the second oldest at 17. My older younger brother was Thomas, he was 14, and my younger, younger brother was 9. That leads to Sara, my youngest sibling, only a baby, so young, 9 months. Me having 4 siblings would soon change, in 12 minutes, and 3 seconds.
6 Minutes. 19 Seconds. Sara, my 9 month old sister, sat on her bed staring at the melted crayon plastered wall. Since my parents and Lucy, my older sister, were gone, I was in charge around here, which sucks. I have to bring down the hammer to everything, "Sara, don't puke on the cat," or, "Jacob why do you find it necessary to shave Sara's head." They hate me now. At least i will only be in charge for 6 minutes and 19 seconds more.
"Jacob," I holler, "Get down from the roof, you're gonna fall and break your neck!"
"You can't tell me what to do," Jacob responds, "It's like my own house up here!"
It was true, he repurposed an old heavy-duty trash bag he found in the dump, and tied it between two of our one story drafters using some old rope my dad bought when we were trying to get a dog, that didn't work out.
3 Minutes. 59 Seconds. Jacob was still up in his hideout, swinging from that little stupid hammock he made. The ends of it started to strain. Black lines ran down the ends, I knew it would snap soon, and he would fall.
"Jacob, get down from there!"
"Nooooooo!"
'Uuuugggggg' I thought. I walked over to the corner of the room, where his bed was positioned, i leaned against it until it started to creak, them move. I kept pushing it until it was positioned underneath Jacob, so if he fell, he would either land on Thomas's bed, or his.
Thomas was in the city. He left about a week ago, and he hasn't come back yet, we are all scared for him. Sad to say but he may be dead. But he will for sure be dead in just under 4 more minutes.
0 Minutes. 31 Seconds. We were nearing time, I could tell something was wrong. It was to quiet. I scooped up Sara's warm body, and quickly ran into our closet to drop her of on the shag carpet. I ran out into our room again and looked up. There Jacob was, just swinging away, he couldn't tell like i could. Life as we knew it would end.
0 Minutes. 0 Seconds. The time was upon us. The ground shook underneath me, hard enough to shake my back teeth. I looked up just in time to see Jacob fall from the hammock he made, and land on Thomas's bed.
"What the hell was that?" Jacob screamed from the bed.
"Hey no profanity in front of the baby!" I replied.
"She's in the goddamned closet, give it a rest sherlock."
Right then the small radio in my parents room let off a huge shriek, "Tsunami warning in Northern New York, Manhattan Bay, Costal California, The Gulf of Mexico Bay Area, The Everglades, Florida, Washington D.C., Baltimore, Maryland, and Atlanta, Georgia."
"Well..." I said, "Were screwed."
