~Shikamaru's POV~
Time: Naruto Shippuden [MODERN]

Here I was, under the early morning sky, lying at the cliff that gave the best view of the city. It was rather peaceful; too early for the people and too late for the animals to contribute to noise pollution. So it was just me, the wind, occasional birds and the clouds.

The sky was a hazy orange colour, as the sun ever so slowly ascended into place. It was lazy, just like me. I closed my eyes, just about to fall asleep, when I heard footsteps approaching.

Without opening my eyes, I grunted, "Whoever you are, you aren't wanted."

"Really? Not even me?" a girl's voice chided.

I cracked an eye open to see Temari hovering over me, her hands over her hips, "Oh, great. What do you want?"

She ignored my question, "You're going to get your clothes dirty! Get up! Up, up, up!"

I raised my hands to my ears, "Sorry, it's too early in the morning to nag." I rolled to my side and tried to sleep, "Come back later."

She clenched her fists and kicked me hard in the gut, "GET UP!"

"Ack! She-devil!" I held my stomach in pain, "What a drag.."

I got to my feet after accepting her hand, "There, I'm up. Now what do you want?"

"Nothing," she gave me a closed eye smile.

Now, normally, her smiles can light up any room, but this one seemed way too cheery. It seemed fake; something was defiantly up with her.

I rolled my eyes, slipping my hands in my pockets, "Alright, alright..what d'ya want this time, woman?"

"Tsk. What makes you think that I want something? Ehehehe.."

Again with that smile! I frowned.

"Just tell me what it is, I'll see what I can do."

"Well..if you insist.." she prodded her finger tips together shyly. "You see, the girls and I are going to a dance.."

"What does that have to do with me?" I asked impatiently.

She blushed, while frowning, "Well, today's Valentine's Day..so what do you think, idiot?"

I blinked, mind blank, "You need a ride?"

"No!" A vein popped in her forehead. "Dammit, Shikamaru! You've got an IQ over 200 but you can't detect a girl asking you to be her date!"

She totally exploded, and I swear, I saw steam coming from her head. I processed what she had said and blinked harder. I totally understood what she said, but I felt like messing with her, since she ruined my sleep.

"What?! Who's this girl that wants me to be her date? Is she cute?" I asked, stupidly.

She took it seriously. I could tell by her entire face heating up.

"Me, stupid.."

I smiled slyly, "Of course I knew what you were talking about, but I was waiting for you to say it yourself~"

She changed her shocked expression to a sly one, matching mine, "Well, aren't you a sneaky
one, Nara?"

She inched towards me, smiling up at me, as I found one of my hands go out of my pocket and slide around her, "So? When's this 'dance' of yours?"

She chuckled, "At like, 6, tonight."

"Jeez, woman, that's a lot of time to kill," I mumbled, checking my watch.

"Hmm, I wonder how I'll spend the rest of the day," she rubbed her chin and avoided eye contact.

"You're making this so obvious; I'm not stupid." I rolled my eyes.

Temari looked at me innocently, "What? I never said that! Maybe I was implying it, but.."

"Oh, can it. Let's go."
