But I then saw what he was looking at. A male dressed in a brown coat, and a charcoal gray and dark green scarf that blew aside in the wind.
"Nice to see ya again, brother."
Who I assumed to be Liu stood a few yards away, his hand in his coat pockets. He seemed to catch my gaze.
He was much older now. He still kept his dark brown hair a little long, bangs falling into his eyes. Once beautiful, happy green eyes were now filled with hatred and contempt.
"What, you're not happy to see us?" Liu's voice was much deeper, as if it hadn't been used in a while. A sinister smile crossed his face, but Jeff kept his ground.
"How...how are you alive?" He spoke in bewilderment, a tinge of sadness to his voice. "I-"
"Stabbed me!!Yes I know."He told him and frowned, but calmed down. "Just hand over the girl, and everything will be alright." He smirked, but Jeff took a step closer.
He was obviously confused, as was I. What did he mean he stabbed him? He hurt his own brother. "Jeff...what is he talking about?" My voice came out as barely a whisper, but he turned his head to look at me.
In that same amount of time, Liu charged toward Jeff with little warning, brandishing a knife in his hand. He pushed Jeff aside and in an instant, I was residing in his strong arms.
Anger flashed in Jeff's eyes, and he reached into his hoodie pocket once more. But he realized he didn't have his knife...I had taken it.
"You shouldn't be living with this monster." That same deep voice spoke up from Liu. "He stabbed his brother 47 times. He forced me to look like this!" He explained in great detail as to what happened...detail that would make one have a visceral reaction.
Shaking with fear, I slowly ran my finger tips along Liu's scarred cheek. "Liu...I'm so sorry..." He glanced at Jeff, but I distracted him when I hugged him tightly, burying my face in his chest.
"Don't be mad at him." I whispered sadly. "It wasn't his fault...he's changed so much." This alone caused Liu to sigh.
"I forgave my brother for trying to kill me. I understand the urges he gets, I've fallen for the same ones time and time and again in the past, so who am I to really judge him, anyway?"
Nodding, I slowly got out of his arms, thankful that I could stop anyone from getting hurt.
"I haven't." Liu struggled, gritted his teeth roughly as he seemed to hold himself back from something. Once again, I cupped his face, forcing him to look at me.
"Liu," I looked into his pain filled eyes. "It's okay..." I pulled him down to my height, letting his head fall against my shoulder. "Everything is going to be alright. I know what happened in the past was wrong...but its clear that Jeff wasn't himself."
He listened to my words, and I could tell he was still upset about it. But his hesitance allowed me to slowly take the knife from his hands, and tossed it away.
"I got you. Its going to be okay, you're going to be okay." As I spoke, I gently stroked his hair to calm him down, allowing Liu to come back down from his anger. He then pulled away when he was content, and sighed.
He looked at Jeff, then at me. "I'm sorry..."He whispered softly, before sitting up straight. "That's what I call...the other half of me." He muttered disdainfully.
"My mind is...a dark place." He muttered, but I took his hands in my own. "I know exactly what that feels like...to be drowning in your thoughts, to where you feel like you can barely breathe. And I'm so sorry you had to go through that.
