"Ugh." I groaned, rubbing the sleep from my eyes. My vision slowly came into focus. I stared up at the familiar soft purple ceiling, wincing at the harsh light streaming from the window panes. I grunted, pulling myself to a sitting position, only to find a wave of dizziness over taking me and dark spots filling my vision. "What- the hell happened?" I murmured, rubbing my head. The sound of the door opening made me wince, the noise sounding like a series of pounding knocks, when in reality it probably was similar to a- well, the sound of a door opening.
"Hey, you're awake." It was Elliot, followed by my mother.
"Yeah. I am." My voice was husky. So deep I can barely recognize it myself. I padded towards the bathroom, running my hands through my birds nest of hair. Well, I tried to at least. I winced once more at my reflection, the dark bags that are running under my eyes and the grey colored aura that seemed to follow me ever since what happened last night. If I didn't know better, I would think that I had passed out due to fatigue. It appears my mother had thought so too.
"Honey- how are you feeling?" My mother came up behind me and laid a hand on my shoulder. I shrugged, tying my hair up into a messy pony tail. "Rodi, you can't keep over working yourself. You are not an alpha yet, just enjoy your last few years of being a child." I looked at her through the reflection of the mirror. I could sense her sadness, and decided that telling her the truth would be even worse. After all, apparently having your mate 'cheat' on you with another female after you guys touched is immensely painful. Many go into a coma for weeks.
"I know mum. I'm sorry." I said softly, my fingers intertwining together in front of me.
Her arms wrapped around me, and I turn around, hugging her back. "Please don't grow up too fast." She whispered. I nodded, my nose tingling.
"I promise I will try not to."
"I love you Rodi."
"I love you too mum." I hugged her tighter to me, before letting go and stepping back.
She cleared her throat. "I heard that Caine showed up to your school." I faced the mirror once more, opening up the faucet.
"He did. He wanted to give me a ride home." I wetted my hands and pumped some face cleaner liquid on my fingers, massaging it into my skin.
"You guys haven't marked each other yet." She commented, leaning against the door frame.
I nod once, leaning down to rinse the suds away from my face. After my face became clean, I leaned back up and used a soft towel to dry the water droplets. "We haven't." I confirmed. "We decided that we are not fit for one another." I lied, grabbing my toothbrush and squeezing a line of toothpaste on.
My mother frowned. "Are you guys both sure about this? Replacement mates happen once a blue moon."
"Yes we are. Caine decided that he loves his lifestyle more, and I chose to focus on my future." I began brushing my teeth, effectively cutting off any chances of replies.
My mother came up behind me and kissed my cheeks. "Please keep in mind that mates are someone who is destined for you. It is a very precious thing. Don't rush this decision." I nodded once more, spitting out the toothpaste. If only Caine would understand this. But who am I kidding? People like him won't change even if it's the end of the world.
"I know mum, don't worry." I smiled softly. She nod once, and left my bedroom. I resumed my morning routine, finishing up with some regenerating oils to make my face look as un-ugly as possible. Because god knows how much more damage concealer will do for my skin now.
I stepped back out to find Elliot sitting on my bed. He sprung up as soon as he saw me. "How are you felling?"
I shrugged, walking past him to my wardrobe. "Tired, pissed off, and really really want to beat up Caine." I took off my top, only now noticing that someone had changed me last night. I pulled on a pair of black tights and a black sweatshirt, with a band of words in white around the top of the sleeves.
