Devyn Hawkshade sat in the hall of the infirmary staring at his black combat boots.
"You're in deep shit," said Aviana Yuri, his girlfriend for 2 years now, and the best healer in the whole building."Thanks for the update" he said lifting his eyes to look at her.
She was a tall woman with Bright green hair and fierce eyes, her muscle mass had grown considerably over the years and now she matched even him. The doors at the end of the hallway blew open and he tore his eyes from the face of the woman he loved and onto the face of the most insufferable man he had met in his ridiculously long life. Aviana placed her hand on his knee, looked him in the eyes in an attempt to bolster his emotions, then got up and walked to the coffee machine. Devyn stood, locking eyes with Richard Ignis.
"What in the world do you think you're doing?" Screamed Richard as he approached Devyn, making as much of a scene as humanly possible."Grand mage, I understand ...""Don't you Grand mage me, you went against my very strict orders and organised a meeting with criminals without consulting any of the elders, let alone me, and from what I've heard had no intention of arresting them afterwards""Please, sir, I was... ""and now you've gone against the oldest rule in the book and brought two mortals, MORTALS, into a sanctuary building. What on earth do you think you're ... ""SAVING LIVES!"
The grand mage stepped back, thrown completely aghast by Devyn's interjection.
"and as for the meeting!" Devyn yelled, stepping forward as to suppress any urges the grand mage may have to interrupt him yet again "I am doing what I have to do to get the information I need to solve the murders that are plaguing the European magical community!"
the grand mage was flabbergasted, he obviously was used to his boot licking English lapdogs but Devyn was no such thing.
"I ... I agreed to have you help with my sanctuaries investigation" stuttered the grand mage, his voice no longer breaking glasses in the opposite building. "Reluctantly, might I add? Because the elders believe you have what it takes to get the job done" the grand mage straightened up, regaining his pompous posture. "However, none of us expected such blatant disregard for the rules and regulations of our fine society" The grand mage had now fully recovered from his embarrassment and had now paused for what appeared to be dramatic effect. "I'm not sure how things are run in filthy Australia" Devyn's nostrils were flaring so violently the appeared to be attempting to escape his face "but here we have a certain respect for one another and the community we have built" it was at this moment that the two elders of the English sanctuary walked in. this was the only thing that stopped Devyn from punching the grand mage in the face.
"I trust we are keeping it civil in here gentleman" said Tanith Low, a legend in the global magic community, also the only English mage Devyn respected. "we wouldn't want things to get messy" she grinned at the pair."I trust you know what transpired over the last 24 hours" said Richard, his face regaining it's usual complexion. "That I do. And I have come here to commend Devyn on his brave actions" "what?" said the two of them, blood rising in Richard, eyebrows raised on Devyn ."Oh, you didn't hear" Tanith said, her playful grin remaining. "Devyn's actions allowed us to capture Mr Glade, Freya Lorn and Tornak Renn. Shortly after his apprentices were picked up by our paramedics"
Richard was stunned, Devyn relaxed mouthing "apprentices?" at Tanith from behind his back. Just then a second elder Frightening Jones stepped forward and lead the grand mage from the room. Tanith took a quick glance behind her to make sure the grand mage was gone, then ripped of her elder robes and threw them onto the chair next to her revealing her brown leather pants and tunic.
"That man, I swear to god." Tanith said, removing the hair tie from her thick blonde hair. Allowing it to hang down her back. "I am counting down the days till the next election. " "We all are" Devyn said unclenching his fists "Trust me"
Tanith sighed and sat on top of her robes. "You're an idiot you know that""At least that's what I've been hearing, not sure I believe the rumors though" Tanith perked up as Aviana turned the corner, three coffees in her hands."You're the best""I know" Aviana replied, handing the coffees to Tanith and Devyn "now that we've got you in a good mood though, what are we gonna do about the two mortals""We really only have two options" Tanith said, her voice barely understandable as she sipped her coffee. "We cant re-write them, their memories are to heavy with emotion for us to be able to wipe quickly. And seeing as though we are very short on resources at them moment we cant have our sensitives waste so much time wiping them properly." Tanith looked up from her coffee and leaned her head against the wall. Her tiredness really showing "We can either kill them or train them. I'm afraid there are no other options."
Now it was Devyn's turn to sit down as he leaned his forearms on his knees"do we know if they are even capable of being trained" Tanith shrugged and Aviana leaned against the wall opposite them."I could run some tests" she said "so that we know for sure" "That would be great" Devyn replied now realizing how tired he was. "I suppose I should go talk with them"
All they could do was nod and Devyn stood, placing his jacket on his chair revealing his chest holster, his gun, a modified Colt, placed snugly inside it and the pistol from the car tucked into his pants. He walked over to the door of room 42. A piece of paper was stuck to the door, it read "WARNING MORTALS INSIDE" Devyn took down the sign, scrunched it up and threw it into the bin down the hall, it went straight in without hitting the sides and he turned slightly, a victorious look on his face as Aviana rolled her eyes and Tanith laughed and gave him the thumbs up. He turned back, reached for the handle, twisted it and entered the room. He was welcomed by the blank stares of the pale faced mortals that had ruined his day
"I believe introductions are in order," he said clapping his hands together and nudging the door shut with his foot
