I was six. I just started playing soccer for the local league. I didn't realize how many friends I would make. I didn't think I'd make any at all. But after I became a "hero" to my team scoring the winning goal, I made a lot. Who knew that to six year olds a hero came as their teammate winning the game for them.I remember it like it was yesterday because not only was it my first game ever, but my nose got broken in the game too. Man did it hurt. But I kept playing. Its like I couldn't stop playing. Like soccer became my drug.
But after the joy, I had to go back home. My mom was always there for me...but my dad was a different story. All he cared about was himself.
"Well, did you win?" he asked as he stared at the computer.
"Yes!" I screamed as I jumped for joy. " We won 3-2 and I scored the winning goal!"All he cared about was his stupid games on the stupid computer. The only time he showed emotion...well, we'll get into that later.
I just wanted to share my joy with my dad. I thought that's what dads were for. But at least I had my mom.
"What do you want for supper?" My mom asked from the other room.
"I don't care, I'm not really hungry."
"Hey, come on now Isaac. You need to put energy back in your body after playing such a hard game. I'll make spaghetti."
I just stared blankly at her as she left my room. My room. Almost like the only sanctuary I have when the yelling and cussing starts.
"John is on the phone!" I hear as I head down the hall. "Hey man what's up!?" I asked. "Are you busy, can I come over. I'm bored."
"Hahaha hold on." "Mom! Can John come over!?" I yelled as I heard a pan crash into the sink. "Well sure, sweatheart! I hope he likes spaghetti!"
"Yeah man, come on over. We're having spaghetti."
"Awesome! Be there in 10!"
