Hello everyone and welcome to another chapter of this rant book. Super late, I'm sorry. I have been getting into a bunch of different fandoms to replace an obsession with a show that just ended, so yeah. No excuses, I know. Sorry.
Today, I just saw that this rant book has over 500 reads! *celebrates* Thank you all so much! I'm just going to move on to what you actually came to read.
This is going to be more about the stories here in general than it is a Percy Jackson thing, cuz I feel like getting this out of my chest. So, the clichés are more popular than the actual original ideas. Why? Isn't that part of what writing is all about? Having an original idea and deciding to share it with the world? Not in this website!
I mean, don't get me wrong. I still love Wattpad. I always will. It's where I truly discovered fandoms. But, the fact that the cliches (and not even good ones at that!) are more popular than the original ideas. I'm not even talking about just Percy Jackson! I'm talking about mostly teen fiction.
I mean, I'm sure you've all seen the Bad boy, Good girl story. I admit, I actually read a couple of them (mostly because they were hilarious), but it's overrated. And then it turns out the guy isn't actually bad but comes from a troubled place. IT'S SO OVERUSED.
I like some of them. I really do. There's one book in my reading list that has that kind of story. But at some point, some of them can be downright abusive. I saw one fanfic where the guy tries to get the girl to take drugs, like it was no big deal. DRUGS! Naturally, after seeing that, I deleted the book out of my library. Don't know what happened to that girl. Probably got arrested.
And don't get me started on the werewolf stories! Sheesh. I don't see the appeal. It's an abusive relationship! I mean, the girl finds out that she's the soul mate to this alpha wolf (for some unknown reason because there is literally nothing special about the girl. Reminds me of Twilight. No offense to Twilight fans.) and then she's forced into a relationship that quickly starts to take over her life. AND SHE IS PERFECTLY OKAY WITH THIS!
Like, I don't know about any of you people, but if my boyfriend isn't going to let me hang out with my friends for any reason, I'd be mad! Like, I don't care if you're jealous, you should have more faith!
And then the One Direction fanfics, OH MY GODS! THEY'RE FRICKING EVERYWHERE! Half the time, they don't even make sense! "I Get Adopted by One Direction!!" What?! No. I'm not reading this because it doesn't make sense! Why on earth would a band that only got together for musical purposes want to adopt someone that they would all have to take care of? And then some of them try to insert some romantic scenes with a One Direction member. WHAT THE HADES?! *takes a deep breath*
Okay. Now I feel better. So, I'm probably going to make a part two to this because I'm not nearly done with what I have to say about these clichés. That's all for now.
Peace out!
