Firkle's POV

I sat there in the silence. My thoughts taking over.

"Go after them you idiot!"
"No they hate you"
"You ruin everything"
"They care"
"That's a lie"
"No one loves you"
"THEY LOVE YOU"
"THEY HATE YOU"
"Ike cares"
"He only feels bad"
"Karen cares"
"She ditched you"
"You're different"
"Be like them"
"Impossible"

"SHUT UP SHUT UP!!" I screamed as my tears burned my cheeks. I tried to stand up but collapsed back on the ground.

I laid on the ground for hours. Blocking out all sounds from the outside. Blocking my thoughts. All I heard was a fuzz. Like the static from a TV.

"Hello?...Hello?" The fuzz went away. I didn't bother to see who it was.

"Go away." I sounded like I was dying. Heh..death doesn't sound too bad right now.

"What's wrong?" The voice spoke again.

"Life."

"Life is wrong?" I turned to see where the voice was coming from. A young girl. Possibly kindergarten. She had long blond hair and dark green eyes with so much life. She had a faded pink jacket and stained jeans. She seemed nervous and confused.

I sat up. "Yes. Very." I made my legs go criss cross as she did the same.

"Well..life can't always be wrong right? Cause 2 + 2 =4 and thats right."

"Kid, that made no sense but complete sense at the same time." I chuckled.

She tilted her head. "Huh?"

"Life is confusing and always will be. But you just got to act like you understand."

"Like when I play pretend?"

"Yep...just like playing pretend." Maybe I should play pretend.

"Do you wanna be friends? Pretty pwease?" She gave her best puppy dog eyes.

"Sure kid"

"My names not kid. Its Anna."

"Nice to meet you Anna. I'm Firkle." I stuck out my hand.

Anna giggled. "Your name is weird." She shook my hand. "I like it."

I gave her a smile.

Anna grabbed arm and dragged me outside. "Lets go play!"

Time skip

Anna and I played in the snow until sky started to darken. I walked her home and she told me some odd stories she made up.

"-the unicorn swooped down and grabbed all the baby doughnuts away from the angry doggies! The baby doughnuts were sooo happy! THE END."

"That...was a confusing but an amazing story Anna."

"Thanks! Oh we're here." She frowned.

"Why the frown?"

"You're better than my mean ol' grandma...Oh! Can I stay with you pwease?"

Damn kids are so much better than teens and adults. Anna made me feel better without even trying.

I sighed. "Sorry Anna I don't have a place to stay. Plus your grandma would worry about you."

"Aw okay." She hugged my waist. "Just come back pwease."

I felt like I was about to cry. God this is such an conformist moment.

I hugged her back. "Don't worry, I will."

With that she walked off to her front door. She waved to me and went inside.

I never realized how kids could be so caring. They don't like seeing people sad so they try to make you happy. Kids don't care what you look like, your past, your interest or anything. Just hang out with them and you're the coolest person ever.

I went back to the cabin. I didn't want to go to Ike's. Well, not yet at least. I took off my jacket and balled it up. I set my head on my jacket and let my thoughts come back.

These thoughts were not bad nor good. They were just thoughts.

"You should go see Ike"
"But you might ruin his life"
"Then don't be you"
"Be someone else"
"Someone better"
"Happier"
"Cooler"
"Let's play pretend"
