This picks off fantastically from core Chemistry, where you should have briefly touched upon alkanes and alkenes. The main features of them are:
A hydrocarbon is a molecule made of hydrogen and carbon atoms only.
Alkenes-
Contains a double bond between two carbon atoms
The general formula is CnH2n (all the numbers should be written below the molecule)
C= carbon
H= hydrogen
n= any number
This means for every carbon atom, there are two times as many hydrogen atoms in the molecule.
Alkenes always end in 'ene'.For example:
Ethene- C2H4
