The World I Left...

The Cave

I hear my footsteps against the smooth floor echo before me. I swing the torch around the walls and I can see the cave above me light up as well. Stalactites surrounded by blue crystals glow in response to the fire. The torch also lights up the walls of the cave and I can see writing on them. There are also many illustrations to go with the ancient text. I slide my hand gently against the rock and I read the story on the rocks

Long ago, two races ruled over earth. HUMANS and MONSTERS

Monsters? There's no such thing as monsters. I roll my eyes but I continue reading.

One day, war broke out between the two races.

I glance at the picture. Two figures stand next to each other. They both wield weapons. The human kind of looks like me. I stand up straight and attempt to get myself in the same position as the human. I laugh because I feel ridiculous. My giggles travel through the cave. I smile. I don't feel like I'm alone anymore.

After a long battle, the humans were victorious.
They sealed the monsters underground with a magic spell.

Of course they did. Thats why there are no monsters up here. Hmm... What a great story. I laugh. This is obviously fake. Some nutjob was bored and wanted to write a story.

The text actually looks like it was written with blood. I put the torch close to the text and I glare at the dark red writing. It's dusty. I blow a stream of air at the wall and all of a sudden there was dust everywhere. I Thrust the torch around the empty darkness in surprise. The dust glows in response. I wave the torch around carefully and the specks glow like fireflies. It's beautiful... I walk further into the cave and the dust starts to collect around the fire like moths drawn to a flame. I smile and then I shove my hand into the dust that has now collected into a large ball. It spreads out like a firework. Soon the whole room starts to glow where the firelight touches it. I put down the torch and I run through the cave.

I put my hands up and I spin around. This is amazing! I giggle and then I run back to the torch. I place my hand over the flame and part of the room darkens. I pick up the torch and I move my other hand around the fire. The room darkens and lights up. I realize that I wish I could share this place with someone.
"mom..." I whisper
I hope she's listening, watching me... I miss her...

I exit out the other side of the cave. The light from the outside world lights up the dust specks too... however, I look down at the flame and smile. It's not as pretty. I smirk and I blow out the torch. The cave behind me sinks back into an eerie darkness. I walk out and the dust brushes against my face lightly. It feels nice... The crisp air fills my lungs again, and the same sensation I felt in the cave returns.

A gaping hole opens up before me as my eyes adjust to the light. I step towards it and then I walk a little bit faster. I can hear a voice in my head telling me to be careful, and for once, I actually listen. Vines loop around the circumference and I could easily trip. That being said, I don't ever watch where I'm going. I trip on the vine and I fall on my chest with my head leaning over into the pit. I gasp and I scramble back to the safe ground. But I watch in horror as my flower drops from my hair into the abyss below.

I begin to well up with tears. But none fall. I wipe them away before they finish forming and I sit there deciding my fate. Move on without the flower... the only piece of soul I have left or risk my life to follow it.
"I have nothing else to lose" I tell myself firmly. I stare at the hole in the ground in front of me. I peek over the edge to look down but I see nothing but darkness. I hesitate and I step away from the gorge, then I run away... I run away from the outside world, my old life, and I jump. And I plunge towards what could be my death.
