The were about 10 minutes into our drive back to my house and finally the astonishment had subsided. At first, I could not believe I was in Brooklyn Beckham's car. And he was driving me home.
"Is it this next left?" He asked me, hand hovering over the indicator.
"That's the one." I smiled.
"So where do you train?" He asked, making a sharp turn onto the main road.
"Um, it's a tiny boathouse up by Radcliffe bridge. In fact we're going to cross the bridge in a minute."
We circled a roundabout before taking an exit which lead us straight into a massive green bridge, known as Radcliffe Bridge. Some of the most famous boathouses were based along the banks of the river Thames up by here.
"Oh look, it's right there." I smiled, pointing out of the window on our left to see a tiny little green boathouse on the footpath.
"Would it be easier for you if I dropped you straight off at the boathouse?" He asked, looking me in the eye as he said so.
"Thanks for the offer, but I need to run home and get my kit anyway. Is that okay with you? If you need to get home I'll jump out here and get the bus the rest of the way." I offered, really not wanting to put him out of his way.
"Freya, don't be ridiculous, I wouldn't let you get the bus when it's this cold out here! Speaking of, how the hell do you survive out there in the freezing cold?" He asked, taking my hand.
My hear leapt almost out of my mouth. I squeezed his hand, and he squeezed back.
"You get used to the cold after a while, but they work you so hard anyway you're sweating by the time you get out."
"Do you have a lot of early mornings as well?" He asked, running his thumb up and down the back of my hand.
"Well I usually only go once a week when we're at school because I would never survive it, it's too early. So I do two sessions on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so they're quite early, but the rest I only do in the evening."
"Sensible." He laughed.
My favourite song started playing from the radio and my face immediately lit up. Brooklyn, seeing my reaction, smiled and laughed, before turning it up full blast. We sang and sang until the song ended, but we kept laughing, and we sang along to the song after that too.
The duration of these two songs brought us to my street. "Thank you so so so much for the lift Brooklyn." I smiled a massive grin before leaning over to kiss his cheek. Our hands were still linked.
"It was my pleasure." He smiled.
"Well, since you're here, did you want to come inside?" I knew the second the words left my lips that it was a bold move.
"Yeah, thank you," He seemed to hesitate here. "I wouldn't want to impose though."
"Of course you wouldn't be. My mum, sister and brother are out anyway, they've all got things to do."
So, we jumped out of the car and walked up to my house. I took the keys from my bag and unlocked both locks before proceeding into the house to stop the burglar alarm.
We both left our bags by the front door and headed into the kitchen. I boiled the kettle and told Brooklyn to make himself at home while I ran upstairs to grab my kit and change. I shrugged on my track suit bottoms and a blue sweatshirt; something warm and comfortable to change into once I got off the river.
I packed up my actual kit into my duffel bag and headed back downstairs.
"Well don't you just look snug as a bug." He smiled. I curtesyed in front of him before pouring us tea.
"Milk?" I asked.
"Yes please. Let me help you." He chuckled as I tried (and failed) to reach the milk on the top shelf of the fridge.
"Thanks." I smirked before pouring some milk into both of our teas.
By this time Brooklyn was sitting down at the island. I handed him his tea and sat next to him with mine. I was cautious of the time, we had about half an hour left until training started, but the bus journey over there only took 15 minutes. Brooklyn saw me eyeing the clock and asked me when I had to leave.
"Oh, I've still got another 15 minutes or so. Plus, they won't care if I'm late, it's only me anyway."
"Okay. As long as I'm not imposing. Tell me if I am." He smiled before taking a sip of his tea. By now it was almost 5:30. We sat and drank tea, before I finally reluctantly had to get up and leave. I packed up my wellies and shoved a chocolate bar in my pocket for afterwards.
"Thanks for inviting me in." Brooklyn smiled, before giving me a massive hug.
"It was fun. We have to find another time to meet again. Maybe with some warning next time." I smiled, flashing back to today's events.
"Yeah definitely." I said as I set the alarm and locked the door. Thankfully, Brooklyn's car was parked at the end of the street, right next to the bus stop. We walked up together before we got to his car.
"Alright. Promise you'll text me after your training just so I know you've survived it." He smiled, and HE TOOK MY HANDS IN HIS HANDS.
My heart was doing flips in my throat, rising, rising. I was pretty sure he could hear my heart beating in my chest.
"Promise." I smiled. That was when he started leaning down. (I was significantly shorter than him) he looked me right in the eye before kissing me right on the lips. It was somewhere between a full on kiss and a small peck. He still had my hands in his, and I wasn't letting go anytime soon. The boy just had no shame. We pulled away, and a massive grin spread from ear to ear. As I looked at his face, his was a mirror image of mine.
"So is that a definite promise?" He smiled.
"Definitely." And, as if to say that he trusted my promise, he released my hands.
Brooklyn opened his car door and hopped inside. Waving as he pulled out and put on his seatbelt.
My heart hadn't stopped beating with such force since.
