"I'm sorry, I'm so, so sorry!" I apologised, fixing a guilty smile on to my face.
"Psht, it's fine! Anyway, how many times have I told you about apologising about everything?" Dani, my bezzie asked me from the passenger seat. She had raven black hair that weaved down to brush against her shoulders. Smooth, olive skin complimented her curvy body. Her eyes were as big as saucers and took over the top half of her face. They were a coconut brown and were framed by thick, long eyelashes to die for. Her plump lips were pulled into a slight grin whilst her eyes twinkled.
"I'll ' Step on the gas' as Americans would say." Linda, my other bezzie said, wriggling in the drivers seat. She flipped her curly brown hair over her shoulder as she pressed down on the peddle. Her chestnut eyes crinkled as we accelerated, her tanned fingers gripping the steering wheel.
"Oh, yay!" Natalie (Linda's younger sister) exclaimed, jumping up and down giddily, shaking the whole car in the process.
We all shared a look through the front mirror, then cracked wide grins.
"Righty oh! Lets go!" Linda called out, eyeing the speed dial and making sure we weren't going over 80.
"Gosh, I'm such an idiot. If it weren't for me we wouldn't be speeding down this road. Linda, slow down, you don't want to get a speeding ticket on the first day of school. But if you do, I'll pay for it! I mean, I'm the one that put us in this situation. Oh, and if we get detention for being late, blame it on me...." I raved, trailing off as I realised they had all turned back and were staring at me.
Dani quirked her eyebrow and simply said: "Shut up Livvy."
"Tut, tut, tut. You never learn Olivia! We are best friends heck, we're sisters - we're in this together, be it getting detention or getting a speeding ticket. Kay?"
A goofy smile wrestled its way onto my face, before my eyes widened in horror. Linda was turned towards me, ME! She wasn't watching the road.
"EYES ON THE ROAD LINDA!" I screeched.
But it was too late. A gigantic black freight truck came barreling towards us. It's spotlights illuminated our horror struck faces. Time seemed to speed up as the ominous, monstrous truck crashed into us. We didn't stand a chance - didn't even get to scream. The lorry ground into us, crushing the bonnet to a pulp and shattering all the windows. Just as it was about to smash into Nat and I, the impact stopped suddenly .
Petrified, I opened my scrunched eyes and glanced around me. Nat and I were bloodied up with shards of glass poking out of us and a bone painfully jutted out of my shin. Natalie's hip had twisted at an unnatural angle, and blood trickled down her pained face. I gulped, and turned to the front, wishing upon anything and everything that Dani and Linda were alright; just then, Dani's seat gave way...
Her head flopped back onto my lap lifelessly. I tried to keep in my hysterics and instead began to shake uncontrollably; the skin had been shredded off her face and jagged pieces of glass were embedded into her bones. Her skull was visible and cracks ran across it. Blood spurted from her crushed body, gushing onto my lap. All I could do was stare down at her in anguish, trying to stop the blood flow with my trembling hands. As I sat, helplessly, tears streamed down my face and dripped onto her broken body. Just then, her eyelids or what was left of them, began to flutter open.
Her pain filled eyes locked onto mine, showing a world of loss, anguish, love and acceptance. Her eyes seemed to tell me to survive, to move on and stay strong. The corner of her lips twitched, as she tried hopelessly to smile at me. Just as the sound of sirens reached my ears, her eyes lolled back into her head.
I finally broke down and began to scream for all that I was worth. Pain wracked screeches shuddered through me as I screamed for my loss, pain and guilt. My voice gradually began to fade as my vocal cords gave way. I felt hands begin to tug at me, pulling me from the car roughly. I thrashed around desperately, trying to stay with Linda and Dani. I tried to stay to say my last goodbye. Instead, I was pulled out of the car, but just before I lost sight of my dead friends, I whispered a last guilty sorry.
