Divide

The Beginning

       No remembers who started the war. One could only speculate how it began based on the ancient texts that have been used for centuries, and even those were unreliable at times.

     It all depends on who you ask, really.

The Order of Things is all that anyone remembers. Many argue that it was called "The Order of the World", but it doesn't really matter. What matters is the Classes: The Makers, Farmers, and Guardians.
     
The Makers, as you might have guessed, designed and built the world that everyone resided in. No establishment was built without their supervision. They'd be what you call "upper class", and were in control of things such as the government and construction.
     
The Farmers, as their namesake states, raised livestock and crops for the people of this society to consume. They were considered "middle class", and lived a life of simplicity.
     
The Guardians... well, isn't it obvious what they did? They protected what the rich created. They were "lower class", and lived in terrible conditions.
This is how the world worked for many years.

    No one remembers who started the war.... but everyone knows the aftermath.

      Over and over again, the culprit of the destruction has been argued about. No one can tell for sure.
      
If you were to ask someone who attacked first, it'd be best to ask the older folk, but change the question just a bit. You'd need to ask how it looked during the attack, not who attacked. They'd all give you the same answer: fire lighting up the sky as if it were a hearth, and smoke filling the air like a kitchen. The atmosphere so thick with terror and ash that you could cut it with a knife.

See? Vague, isn't it?

       If one were to resort to looking up in a textbook who started this war, your answer would be just as confusing, because all of the history books are biased depending on what class you're a part of. Each historian tells the tale differently, and everyone blames each other. Why?
     
Trust went down with the world we once knew, as did the bonds that held society together.
         
If you were to question an adult as to why the three Classes separated in to Water, Earth, and Sky Dwellers, giving up the names they once wore like badges of honor, you'd surely be scolded for asking such an ignorant question, and sent to consult one of the biased history books without any supper. Anyone who supposedly knew better than to ask such a stupid question would say that they didn't need the other Classes, and that they were perfectly capable of getting by without them!
   
Anyone with sense knew that this wasn't truth, but either no one had any sense anymore, or someone did and were too scared to say anything about it.

    The only person clever enough, or with enough bravery to border on stupidity, was Marley Gearlock, but you can't really rebel when you're asleep in bed.
