Stella's parties usually weren't that crazy. She would normally just have a bunch of people from school over and have us all hang out.

There wouldn't be any alcohol, just those stupid little juice boxes. The food would be microwaveable Mac & Cheese (yes, you would have to microwave it yourself), a couple boxes' worth of Ritz crackers, a bowl of fruit salad (because her mom is obsessed with being healthy), and probably a few plates of cookies decorated all spookily for the holidays.

Stella's parents were gone for Halloween, because it was also their old high school friend's birthday, so they visited him instead.

I didn't have my hopes up very high. Of course, Stella had told me multiple times that Calix was coming, so I had to "look my best" and "wear something hot." Geez, these girls.

I dressed up as a rockstar, because why not? Everyone going to the party loved music, so I decided to wear something that people would approve of.

I let my hair stay loose and messy, because I liked it that way and I would probably die if I ever had to apply gel in it. I threw on some black jeans (which might have been a bit too small, but rock stars wear tight pants, right?) and a ripped up, white Nirvana shirt.

The song "Mama" by My Chemical Romance had been stuck in my head all day, but most people at the party preferred Nirvana over them. Weirdos.

I stole some of my mom's eyeliner and applied it messily underneath my eyes, even though she wanted to do it herself. I didn't put on any more makeup than that, but I found a spiked collar that used to be my dog's and a black leather jacket that used to be my dad's, until it got too small.

I said goodbye to my mom and my dad drove me to Stel's house. He gave me the dumb old talk about drinking and girls and peer pressure, even though I knew everything already. I reassured him that Stella wasn't "that kind of person."

My dad had to drop me off a street away from Stella's house. I was confused. There usually weren't that many people at her parties. My dad looked worried, but I slammed the door shut and thanked my dad for the ride.

When I finally reached her house, music was pumping out of the building like blood through a heart. The beat was steady, throbbing like a heartbeat. Lights were flashing and rolling through her house, illuminating the outside. The house was like a body, thriving with life.

There were several cars, parked like Tetris pieces in Stella's yard, which worried me. Why were there so many people here?

Stella's front door squeaked as I opened it. The linoleum floor creaked underneath my feet, like usual, but there were cigarette butts that crunched as I walked.

Cigarettes? Stella didn't smoke, and neither did anyone in her family. Or any of her friends, for that matter.

I figured some kids must have crashed the party. Hopefully, there wouldn't be any alcohol involved.

My eyes widened as I saw the gigantic mass of people who had crowded in the living room. I weaved through the people and tried to find Stella somewhere, or even Calix. Hugo didn't go to parties, even though Stella had begged and begged for him to come. She promised it wouldn't be too big, but I guess she wasn't planning this either.
