I was awoken by the sound of large, flapping wings.

I sat up, rubbing my eyes, noticing marks on my arms from laying on the straw for too long.

Oh. So this wasn't just a nightmare.

I tracked the noise and suspected it came from outside. Carefully, I stood, trying not to wake Ronan. I tip-toed through the flaps of the so-called door and noticed that the sky had turned a cotton-candy shade of pink once again.

I bit my tongue to hold back a shriek of terror when I found that two shadows with huge, moth-eaten wings were flying quickly towards the hut.

As the figures flew closer, their raggedy wings detracted, and I noticed that one of the creatures was a gray color, and the other was black.

I stood on top of the comical welcome mat outside of the hut, knowing that Ronan would scold me for coming out here alone, but I didn't want the both of us to suffer. Maybe if they got me, Ronan could get out of here.

"What is this--human--" the gray one spit out the word like it was poison, "--doing in the Netherworlds?"

"And even worse," the darker one whined, "in our house?!"

At this point, the devil-things touched the ground with their toes and landed with a small thud as their large, bare feet smacked the ground.

They had horrid teeth, but their eyes were a glimmering blue, like water. They both had hair to match their bodies, but it was fairly short, and protruding from their hair came large, curved horns. Definitely devils. They didn't wear any clothes except for the loincloths around their waists (thank god, because I did not need to see any more of them).

I had to admit, however, their perfectly sculpted chests and stomachs were guiltily attractive, and coming out from the back of their loincloth were long, sleek tails with an arrowhead on the end of each one. They seemed to swivel around according to the demons' reactions.

I shivered. "Please," I said, trying to sound brave, but my words came out as a raggedy whisper. "I'm just trying to find a way out of here. Kallistrate sent me to find a way out, so if you have any pointers, I'll be glad to take them."

"Here're my pointers," the darker one said in a low, raspy voice, baring his teeth at me, pointing at his mouth with sharp, black fingernails, and revealing an ebony tongue.

"Nyx, before we kill her, we need to introduce ourselves!" the lighter devil shrieked in a sly, slippery voice.

I really should have been scared, but something told me that these creatures were too genuinely nice and lonely to do anything to me. Or Ronan, for that matter.

The black demon, apparently called Nyx, smirked. "I am Nyx, meaning the nighttime." He smiled menacingly, showing off two rows of hideously yellow teeth.

"I'm Thorn, meaning, well, thorn," the other one said. "Okay," Thorn said, almost grimacing. "Your turn."

I raised my eyebrows at them. "What?"

Nyx snickered. "Thorn, she doesn't wanna tell us her name!"

Thorn chuckled back. "Aw, little girl, don't be afraid." Thorn's voice had become an ominous octave lower. They took a step closer to me. I took a step back into the hut.
