Seize the Day

Okay, I only had two votes and one comment on the last chapter, but my first day of high school is in six hours so I just thought, "Fuck it. I'm posting this." YOU'RE WELCOME.

"So, hang on," Ryder said, pacing back and forth in his bedroom. "Just to recap. I know Dad was divorced when he met my mom. So, during his first marriage, he had you?" he asked Gabe.

"He had both of us," Gabe answered. "They divorced after you were born and Dad moved to Lima."

"And he never told me this, why?"

"Don't ask me. My mom told me this before I played Fiyero in Wicked."

"Really?" Gabe nodded. "Wow."

"I know. Why do you think they didn't want to tell us?"

"I have no idea," Ryder answered.

"So..."

"So."

Suddenly, Gabe's phone started ringing; he checked the caller ID and immediately picked up. "Hello?"

"Gabriel Kyle Lynn, where the hell are you?!?" Rachel shouted on the other line.

"Jeez, calm down, Barbra," he replied. "I'm with my brother."

"Oh. You found him?"

"Yeah."

"Well, then, go bond. Just don't stay out too late."

"Yes, Mother," he replied sarcastically.

Rachel laughed and hung up. 

After Gabe put his phone down, Ryder asked him, "You like her, don't you?"

"Who?" Gabe responded.

"Rachel. I noticed that your face lights up whenever she's in the room. Plus, you completely ignored me when she called."

"Why does it matter if I like Rach or not?"

"Because you might be stuck in the friend zone forever if you don't tell her."

"What about you and Marls?" Gabe asked.

"What?" Ryder replied. "How do you know about that?"

"Ha!" Gabe exclaimed, getting up. "So you DO admit it!"

"Okay, fine." Ryder put his hands up in defeat. "I like her, she might like me, she has a boyfriend, and I'm lonely."

"Well, confessing it is the first step."

"Says you!"

Then there was a knock at the door. "Come in," the brothers said in unison. 

The door opened, and a girl not much older than Ryder walked in. She had brown hair and brown eyes to match. "Ryder," she spoke, "Dad's asking if you're ready for dinner."

"Tell him I'll be down in a sec," he replied. He noticed that Gabe had been staring at the girl, so he introduced them to each other. "Gabe, this is Natalie. Nat, Gabe."

Once Ryder introduced them, they couldn't keep their eyes off of each other. Gabe was studying her movements; Nat was just staring at him. This was going on for a bit before their dad yelled for them to come down. Nat snapped out of it and went back down the stairs while the boys just stayed in Ryder's room.

"Is she..." Gabe started.

"Half-sister," Ryder replied.

"Ah."
