I was in Ireland, at Jack's house. I walked through the place, reliving everything. I hadn't been back since his death. I was coming up on my 80th birthday, if you can believe it. And with my heart problems, the doctors said I didn't have long. I unpacked my bags, and set the urn on the table. This is where it would end. I would live the rest of my life here. I hadn't taken the necklace off once. Not even when I had to go to court to get charges filed against the guy that hit Jack with his car. They let me keep it on through the metal detector when I explained what it was. I looked in confusion at something that lay on the counter. It was a CD. Oh god I knew what it was. It was a mix-tape jack had made me. I left it here the last time we were here. I looked at the list on the back.
Hurt- Johnny Cash
Migraine- 21Pilots
I'll Follow You Into The Dark- Death Cab For Cutie
Darcy's Donkey- Gaelic Storm
Bleed It Out- Linkin Park
Come With Me Now- Kongos
Shots- Imagine Dragons
Death of a Bachelor- P!ATD
Emperors New Clothes- P!ATD
The Reason- Hoobstank
Monster-Imagine DragonsI stuck it into the dusty CD player, and listened to it with no end.
Three days passed in the house, and it was time. I could tell. I was seeing Jack everywhere. He would be in the kitchen, eating a strip of bacon. Or in the bathroom, fixing his hair in the mirror. I called the Ireland emergency number, and I turned on the mix tape. I closed my fingers around the container of his ashes that hung around my neck, which also contained some of Chica's fur from when she passed. I'd see them soon. My body tensed as my heart began to stop. Everything went black as I fell into a chair.
There was white. White everything. But it slowly started to solidify. There was a boat, going across a river. I stepped in, and looked down at body and hands. I was 26 again. There were three men that I stood in front of after I got off the boat, and they nodded. I turned, and I saw him waiting, Chica at his side. I ran, and we collided, lips together. he smelled the same, his hands were gently and warm. He tasted of salt, and of course bacon just a little. We walked together, back to- His house. but it was like a mix of both of our houses. Daniel sat inside at the table, working on his music as always.
"Daniel." I smiled,
"Mark!" He hugged me, and I grinned.
Now we just had to wait.
And so we waited. Watching the continued soccer games(because you can apparently do that in the afterlife. It's your own heaven, so I guess whatever you want), and reruns of Futurama for eternity, and playing outside, walking Chica and Lego.
Until one day, there was a knock at the door. It was Ryan.
"Hey Mark!" We hugged, and he hugged Daniel, and Jack. He was especially excited to see Lego. "Matt shouldn't be too far behind."
"Good. Good." I grinned. We'd all be together again. And this time, forever.
Matt joined us eventually, and we all had some drinks to celebrate the whole gang being back together. I was dead, so my alcohol problem was gone. And Jack was one hundred percent human.
Jack and I were alone one day, sitting by the river, looking up at the stars. We had a blanket out on the grass, with some cheese and crackers, and real wine and Jameson.
"Hey Jack?"
"Yeah?"
"Did I ever tell you how glad I am that you kidnapped me?"
He laughed as I kissed him, and pushed him down. I pulled off his shirt as he undid my flannel, and we fell into each other, kissing and loving until we couldn't breathe. We lay on top of each other afterwards, kissing softly and lightly.
We were extremely tired, but happier than we'd ever been.
