Shaylees POV

Once again I have wondered into the woods. Not by mistake but more by wonder.

I have gone into the woods ever since I can remember. It was always an magical place where I could collect my thoughts. My mama always said to not go in there alone. She can tell me anything but I will forever do the opposite.

I go to my tree that i always sit in. It's a huge tree and the trunk makes a shape of a chair. I sit and look around me as I hug my knees to my chest.

This is the best place in the whole world. I wish I could say the same for home. If I can even call it that.

Papa is constantly drunk and is always beating me and mama. Mama on the other hand cares for me sometimes. Other time she is just like my dad. Grandma passed away last month and grandpa passed away when I was little. I don't even remember him.

I sit silently on my tree listening to my surroundings. In the far off distance I hear a twig snap. I suddenly jump up and grab my wooden spear. Just in case.

No one ever ventures into these woods but me. At least that's what I thought. I have never seen anyone out here or anything. Well no I have seen some things.

Once when I was 10 I came into these woods to see grandma. Then I seen it this huge black wolf. That thing was about 3 times my size and I knew for a fact that it was going to eat me. Only it didn't. It jumped around me and continued on its way. I have never felt so scared in my life. Now back to reality.

I stood there spear in hand and listened once again. I heard an rustling in the woods right in front of me. Only this time it was way closer.

I seen an shadow come out from the tree line and I almost stopped breathing. The very wolf I seen when I was ten has come up to me again. The only thing that was different was it was bigger but smaller in the stomach area.

The poor thing must be starved. I turn to my tree and grab my bag I always bring with me. I grab out a piece of land and a piece of the sweet warm breed mom always makes.

I turn back to the wolf that was now close enough for me touch it. I extend my hand that has the cooked meat in it to it. He looks from me to it then slowly takes it from my hands.

I sigh with relief as I watch the wolf eat savoring every bite.

Wait what? This wolf right hear in front of me took this small portion of food that I have instead of me!

I watch the thing eat and then I extend my hand to pet it. It looks up and growls a little and I draw my hand back. He goes back to eating and I lay the bread by his side. He looks up and cocks his head to the side and looks me up and down.

I should be afraid of this thing. I should have ran for my life. I should have done anything but stand here and watch him eat.

He gives me one last look over and then goes back to eating. I stand and grab my bag as he continues to eat. I walk away and when I turn back he is watching me walk away.

After I got out of seeing distance I ran all the way to the gates. That keeps our village protected.

"Open the gates!" I shout and the men do so. I walk home and go up to my room not in the mood for my parents.

After a while of thinking I finally drift off to sleep.
