Penny Dilla - The Victor's Entries
Task 1
------------------
I awoke from the feeling of hands pulling on my arm. I looked past my arm near the ground where I saw Penelope, pulling on my arm. I gave her a light smile and she returned the expression. Ever since the capitol killed my parents and moved me to District 11, I've been living at this run down house with a previous winner of the hunger games. Penelope is three years younger than me, and my only friend. I'd do anything for the little fudgeball, like she'd do anything for me. "Today is the first time I'll be in the reaping" she said with a nervous tone. My eyes widened. I forget she turned twelve a couple months ago. She had always been my little fudgeball, I never once thought she would go into the arena. But then again, I never thought I would either, even with how many times my name was put in that big glass ball. I pulled her hair away from her face and looked into those chestnut colored eyes. ''There's nothing to worry about, besides your name's only in there once." She seemed to calm down and I smiled at her. She got and ran through the house. I laid back down on the bed and tried to suffocate myself with the pillow. I pulled the pillow off my face and looked at the bedside table. I smiled at the metal coil before me. It was my father's before he died. He had given it to me the day of my first reaping and said that I'd never get chosen if I had it with me. Ever since I've never gone to a reaping without it. I smiled and slid on my favorite black shirt and my best pair of jeans. I pulled on my shoes followed by my jacket. I picked up the meyal coil and gripped it firmly in my hand. I made my way through the house and found Penelope trying to wake Mike. We lived in a small house with two bedrooms. One for me and Penelope and the other for Michael Fitzpatrick, a previous winner. "Let him be." I said to Penelope. She nodded as she walked out of the room. We checked ourselves in and made our way through the gates, towards the reaping.
I turned to Penelope and looked into her eyes, "Here," I said as i gave her the metal coil. "You'll be fine as long as you have this, you'll never get picked." She looked down a the metal coil and back up at me. "Then you'll get picked since you don't have it." She said, tryimg to hand the coil back to me. I smiled at her and curved her fingers around the coil. She looked back up at me and smiled. I directed her in the area where the youngr kids stood. "I'm scared." she said. "You'll be fine as long as you have that." I said pointing at the hand grasping the metal coil. She didn't lool very convinced as she headed off to her group.
I joined my age group and waited for the arrivial of Gardia Plata, our escort. I looked around seeing all of the familiar faces that I never even talked to. My eyes stopped on him. Jasper Sparks. The most handsome man I've ever laid eyes on. He was everything a girl could ever want. His dark hair stood out against the spring sky. I couldn't help but stare. He's been my crush ever since I was relocated to District 11. He lifted his head and looked into my eyes. I stared at him for a couple more seconds and turned away. My heart was racing as Gardia Plata stepped on stage.
She was super tall in her foot-high high heels. She had the hair color of a redhead that looked like it had gotten hit with raw tomatoes.
"So," she said, her voice high pitched as she turned her head in my direction. Her eyes locked with mine as a smile curled at the corners of her mouth. "Let's start with the boys." She made her way to the big glass bowl, the spund of her clicking heels on the wooden stage echoed throughout the area. She stuck her hand into the round glass bowl. She pulled out a small sheet of folded paper. I could feel bodies tense next to mine. Gardia unfolded the paper and walked up to the microphone. ''The boy tribute is...'' she said. Causing tension in tje grass field. ''Jasper Sparks." My body froze at the call of his name. I couldn't believe he had gotten picked. He walked up the step to the stage. ''Next, the females.'' said Gardia, her tone as calm as could be. She pulled out another piece of paper and unfolded it. She stepped up to the microphone. "Penny Dilla." My eyes widened as people opened up a space for me to walk out. I took a step foward and looked around. I saw sympathetic eyes and ones filled with relief. I walked on the soil and heard the rocks crunching beneath my feet as I mad my way to the stage. I looked at Jasper and then to Penelope. Tears streaked her frail, delicate face. Gardia grabbed my right hand and his left and lifted them up. ''This years District 11 tributes!" The crowd roared with excitement as we were taken off. This was it, I am a tribute, I am in The Hunger Games.
