Chapter Nineteen

Alison P.O.V

I'm 35 weeks pregnant. The time is flying by, technically I can have this baby anytime. Which is honestly terrifying. I haven't been doing much these last few weeks, I'm the biggest I've ever been and I even have stretch marks. Chanel and I have been hanging out like crazy, almost every  day. Chase is working now, he's a mechanic. He says he wants to support me and the baby, I tell him I have lots of money but he still insists.

"Maria, I'm fine you don't need to come over. Chanel will be here soon anyway." I said on the phone with Maria, the lady calls every day.

"Are you sure? I can come make you two lunch." She pushed.

I couldn't help but laugh, "We are fine, I don't mind cooking for Chase."

"If you say so. Ali, there is something I've been wanting to talk to you about." Maria sounded hesitant.

"What is it?" I asked I couldn't help but feel nervous.

"I've been thinking, I would like to get a job, move out of the house and get my own place. Then you could sell this house and cut off all ties from your father if you'd like. Although I'd have to recommend trying to mend them first."

I was speechless. I had so many thoughts running through my head. Of course I wanted Maria to do whatever makes her happy, but that house has so many memories in it. If we sell it, that's it. I'm cut off from my father. Done. Gone.

"You don't need to make up your mind now, it was only a thought," Maria said, obviously worried she may have upset me.

"No, no Maria, I want you to do whatever it is that makes you happy. If that means moving out and getting a job then do it. I just need to think about what I want to do with the house is all."

"I assumed so. Take your time dear, I will do whatever that makes you happy." I could pretty much hear the warm comforting smile in her voice.

"Thank you, Maria. That means so much to me. Oh, I think I heard Chanel pull up in the driveway, I will talk to you later." I hung up the phone.

I pulled my large self off the couch to go look out the window, Chanel was getting out of her vehicle.

Chanel and I were in the kitchen making dinner.

"So, are you going to sell the house? What about the money of yours in the bank that your dad owns? What's going to happen with that?" Chanel questioned.

"I don't know what I want to do about the house, if I sell it then it officially means I'm done with my dad. And as for the money, well both my parents and I signed a contract years ago that once I turn 21 the money is mine. He can't do anything about it."

There was silence. "So this is adulthood huh?" Chanel said quietly. Then it hit me. I've been so wrapped up in my own life and drama I never even took into consideration how Chanel is going. What an asshole move by me.

"How are things?" I asked, "I've been so wrapped up with this baby and Chase I never thought to ask you how you've been."

Chanel took in a deep breath. "I've been alright. I'm a little stressed out to tell you the truth, I'm not sure what I want to do with the rest of my life. I'm completely winging it and it's terrifying."

"Don't worry about that stuff," I said sitting down on the island stool. "There is nothing wrong with winging it. Hell, look at me," I gestured to my very pregnant belly, "I'm pregnant with no job, and no family left."

Chanel immediately looked sympathetic and embarrassed. "I know it could be worse..."

"Ah shit. I'm not trying to say my life is worse than yours, I just mean that you're not alone. I'm completely winging my whole life, I'm just saying we can wing it together."

"Thanks, Ali, that actually does make me feel better. Now, let's finish dinner. You're probably starving." Chanel said and starting to continue cooking.

An hour later Chase came home, Chanel and I were just making the last few preparations for dinner.

"Hey, baby." He said coming into the kitchen, he placed one hand on my stomach and one on my back, and gave me a long sweet kiss.

"Did you miss me?" I asked grinning like a little girl.

"I always miss you." He gave me one more peck on the lips.

Chanel started making gagging noises in the background. "Chase, let me be the first to tell you. You are totally not the bad boy anymore. You're like the.... responsible husband slash father that all women desire." She cocked her head to the side like a cocker spaniel, "which now that I think about it. Women always want you."

"And I was the lucky winner," I said smiling. "Holy fuck how cheesy was that?" I asked laughing. "Anyway, let's eat now."

We were sitting around the dinner table making small talk.

"Tomorrow Dallas and I are going to participate in the car race just a ways out of town." Chase said, "We'll be in the same car racing other people, you guys should come watch. For old times sake."

"That sounds like so much fun. I don't think I should come though, I'm ready to pop and I want to be as close to the hospital as possible." I said rubbing my stomach, "I need drugs, lots, and lots of drugs."

"I'll stay with her in case she does... pop. I think someone should be with her until that baby is out." Chanel said. Geez, we hang out so much now it's like we are the married couple.

"Sure, thanks for always hanging out with her. I know I've been working lots but that should slow down as soon as they hire another guy." Chase put his hand on my knee and squeezed.

The next day, Chase was out racing his car with Dallas. Who I actually miss, believe it or not. In a friend way, of course. It's a shame. I don't think we will ever be able to be friends the way we were before.

"So what's on the agenda for today?" Chanel asked flopping down on the couch beside me.

"I have no idea. I can't wait for this guy to come out, I barely leave the house anymore. And my feet are swollen and sore. Look at these bad boys." I struggled to take my slipper off but eventually did after a few long seconds of trying. I put my foot up on the coffee table in front of me.

"Holy shit. It looks like an elephant foot. No offence." Chanel said patting my shoulder, teasing.

"Thanks. I feel so much better." I said sarcastically.

My phone starting ringing and Chanel got up  to pass me it since it's hard for me to get up these days. It was an unknown number on the screen.

"Hello?"

"Hi there, may I speak to Miss Alison Draft?" The man on the other line said.

My heart starting beating with his professional tone. "Yes, it is her." I was surprised how level my voice was.

"We have you listed as the emergency contact of Mr. Chase Holt.  Mr. Holt has been in a terrible car accident, and we are going to have to ask you to come down to the hospital immediately ma'am."

My heart stopped, I could feel a tear make its way down my cheek. "I'm on my way," I said before hanging up the phone.
