It was a normal day like all the others, Leonna was hard at work making lunch for the two rambunctious children that were playing in the lawn. The heat was killer for a summer day in New York, and she didn't understand how they could be playing without drowning in their sweat. She was making grilled cheese and tomato soup for them to eat, knowing it would just be the three of them today since Steve was off on a mission. Usually she didn't mind him being away on a mission, to a certain extent, but in two days was their anniversary and she wanted to do something special for a change. But he had said that the mission could be stretched out longer than what they expected, which made her believe that he was going to miss their anniversary again.
"Mom!" Annie said as she ran in with her younger brother following behind her, "When is lunch going to be ready?" She said, her brown hair pulled back into two shoulder-length braids on either side of her head.
"Once you both go take your shower, you are sweating like pigs." Leonna commented looking over her two kids, "Let Nathan go first, he takes less time." She said as she flipped the sandwich in the pan. She watched as Annie groaned and followed Nathan upstairs to shower. She chuckles and shakes her head, putting the grilled cheese onto the plate that already had a couple of sandwiches. She checked on the soup as well, tossing in some chunks of cheese like her mother used to make it for her. She began to set the table when she heard the footsteps coming down the stairs, seeing Nathan appear with a towel wrapped around him.
"Mama," He said, "Pajamas." He stated, which was pretty good for only being four. She smiles and nods, turning off the stove and pouring the soup into the bowls.
"Go upstairs and pick some out, I'll be up in a minute." She said as she watched him race back upstairs. She wiped her hands on her apron before peeling it off and hooking it on the post next to the pantry. She walked up the stairs and went into the kids' room, seeing Nathan searching through his drawers. She walked next to him and helped him find the ones he was looking for, she knew which ones he wanted because he always wore them when Steve was away. They had Captain America on the shirt and then a bunch of shields for the pants, they were pretty cute. Even Steve had to admit that he found them adorable.
"Daddy..." Nathan said touching the face on the shirt, looking up to his mother.
Leonna smiles and nods, "Yep, Daddy..." She said as she took the towel away from him and helped him into his clothes. She kissed the top of his head, pushing his blonde hair back before smiling. She kisses his nose and he giggles, "How about you go down stairs and wash your hands before lunch?" He nods and hurries down the stairs.
